I got to install my Flame gage overlays by Nu Image today. I wasn't to sure what they would be like, but Turbo Tim assured me a few days ago it would be easy. Well he was right! They are easy, and you really only need a Philip's screwdriver, 13mm socket, small flat screwdriver and about 45-60 minuets. The automatics require the removal of two additional screws from the back of the instrument cluster, other then that there is no difference.

I wanted a new look, I have had my Ram since new and the dash is one item that needed some work. I have never done anything to the dash except for adding a wood dash kit, and I was tired of looking at that. I went with blue flames on a white background, they also mysteriously change at night, but thats not important. Just getting the dash apart and cleaning behind the clear cover was worth the time. The gage pointers come off very easy, they supply a removal tool that does a great job. Just jot down the proper setting while the truck is idling and you will have no problem reinstalling them later. The kit said to remove the old OEM backgrounds, but I cleaned them and stuck the new ones on top of the old, worked fine. While it was all apart I removed the wood trim and installed a new carbon fiber trim kit. Great product, for those that care I went with a Crystalux carbon fiber dash kit # R2020,'94-'97 Ram. The kit was a snap to install, mainly because it was very well engineered. When everything was back in place I got a great surprise, gone was the old dash I new and in it's place was a very fresh and modern looking replacement. I liked it, and even my wife liked it (I had already done the carbon fiber thing on her car), and hopefully someone out there will like it too. I think it really make a big difference, and gives you the feeling of being in a different truck. I wish I would have taken a picture before I started, but as usual I jumped in to it with out thinking. I know some members wont like the carbon fiber look or the flames, but the point is there are many different patterns available and you don't have to sit and look at the stock dash any more.

Cool. I didn't know there was a gauge overlay available for the early 2nd Gen trucks... .

I'm not really psyched about the blue flames, though... To each his own.

Matt, you can get them in just white faced blue lighting on Ebay.

Mark: Thanks for the heads up. I don't do much bling-bling shopping on eBay... too much ricer junk gets in the way of finding the stuff for my trucks.

Go to EBay Motors from the main page, then Parts & Accesories, then Cars & Trucks and do searches like Dodge Ram or Dodge 2500 that eliminates a lot of the junk.

I promise just a general "Dodge Ram" search will pull up more pages than you care to look at in one setting. I do a lot of surfing on ebay, and every know and then buy a few things and there are some great deals on there. ;)

Of coarse E-bay has alot of ricer parts and bling, bling parts. You just have to narrow your search criteria. If you go to E-bay Motor, then Car&trucks. Pick the category you want to search, then when it comes up add RAM to the search window. This will sort out junk and leave you with the stuff you want.

I do buy some stuff off of E-bay, but the majority of parts I buy come from mail order stores like Jeggs, Stylin Customs, etc. E-bay is nice but you really have to research the parts you are interested in, also pay very close attention to the wording of the add.

There are many different gage faces on the market, Nu Image is the main manufacturer, and they have something for everyone. I happen to like the white back ground with the blue flames, I think it livens up a dual area, but that is me. I also like the Carbon Fiber dash trim, I had the wood dash kit for 5-6 years and it just got old, and I think made the truck look old. Others might like it (if you do I have one for you). There are at least 4-5 different types of wood dash kits, 1-2 aluminum kits, and a couple CF one, so there are many to choose from. The main thing is that,Nu Image sells very high quality gage face kits, what ever the style, they will fit and fit right. Nu image also sells many interior pieces, I have used there products on several trucks and they have always been of the highest quality, one great company.

111d in Platinum looks sweet.

My only gripe with the OEM cluster is that there's too many hash marks on the speedo... all of the aftermarket ones seem to continue with that tradition. The early 2nd-Gen clusters have the advantage here... with the exception of the mechanical odometer.
