Getting ready to order gauges for my truck.

What are the best mfgs? I'm looking at AUTOMETER:

Tach - Will the AUTOMETER work with the factory plug? (BTW, where is it and what color wire?) Range?

EGT Range?

Boost - not sure range

Plan on mounting them on the A pillar using a two pod and a single - anybody done this on first gen?

Trans Temp to come later.

Okay, next question - do I need to worry about the KDP on this truck?

If you don't plan of bombing t hard a 35 psi boost gage should work.

On the EGT a 1600 degree reading should get you by with no problem.

The third gage pod might put you up a little high. I have a pic of my 2 gage here somewhere. I'll find the link for it.

Yes you do need to worry about the KDP. There are issues in all years of the B series up till the case change in what ever later model year it was done.

I'm pretty sure most every guy/gal in here will agree with the following... .

You are on the right track with guages.

When it comes to EGT and or boost guages, remember one thing,... . almost every one of us has had such a good time tweaking and tuning, we've gotten hooked on it..... so. .

Your boost guage should have some "safety margin" in terms of max readings... . :D:D:D

I've had to change guages twice due to insufficient sweep range... boost used to be 20 psi, my 35 psi is no longer enough and I'll need a new one soon. . maybe this week actually. .

Pyro, should sweep to at least 1600*F, and 1800*F would be better. My first was 1500*, my current one is 1800*F.

If you don't allow enough "fun factor" in your guages you'll end up buying them two or three times...

KDP

I would check on the KDP before it comes out, its not cheap replacing the timing housing. I'm still saving up to fix mine. alonzo

Boy, it sounds like BushWakr is getting out of control. . I agree with these guys. A 35psi gauge, along with a 1600* pyro, should be enough unless you plan on getting crazy. I've got the Automeeter Z-series. They work great and closely match the factory gauges. I also have the two-gauge A-pillar pod. I like it. The gauges could be positioned a little better, but they are easy to read.

I cant say about the aftermarket tach hookup for sure. My Mopar gauge plugged into the factory location under the dash. I think some others do the same. As far as readings - flat ground no load I would see 12psi, and around 900* or so basically stock.

It is possible for the KDP to cause damage in the first gen too. Chances are that it wont, but I stopped mine just to be sure that it can’t.
