Light Duty Cummins on the way?

If you like Fire Trucks, look at this one.

I saw a post on a different site about a guys girlfriend putting gas in his diesel truck.

Can anybody tell me exactly what happens to your engine/injectors etc. when you mix some gas with your diesel and at what ratio of gas/diesel does bad things start to happen?

I. E. I am sure that mixing 1 teaspoon of gas into 50 gal of diesel wouldn’t do anything however, putting a 50/50 mixture gas/diesel would be bad!

Thanks in advance for your information.

I had this problem not long after I got my '95 truck. A local station had been misfueled, with some gas contaminating the diesel fuel. I don't know what the percentage was, but the odor of gas was clearly evident in the fuel. The truck ran fine, but was down on power. I didn't know what the problem was until I saw the HVAC company next door siphoning the fuel out of their oil truck. I seems the 3208 wouldn't idle on this mixture. I refueled my '95 from another station, and all was well. No harm was done to the 3208 either.

Interestingly enough, this was shortly after this long-time stations owner had farmed out the fuel islands to what turned out to be terrorists from Turkey. In addition to this debacle, a load of contaminated fuel that looked like grapefruit juice found its way in there, and that seriously damaged a number of diesel trucks. A while later, they tried the short-fueling trick on one of my company trucks, but I caught on to that scam before I moved the truck. Naturally, when things would go wrong, no one understood english. The final indignity occurred when they tried to launder one of my company checks (for $10,000), but the bank caught it because the numbers were out of sequence. Needless to say, I had to start a new checking account and update all the associated agencies. Shortly after that, the station was demolished and replaced with a Wachovia Bank. So much for controlling (closing) the borders.

WOW!!. . All I can say is WOW!!.

if its not turks its paki's, i only use my amex for work and never ever on the internet... . hess is the only station that u have to give them your card to turn pump on and they hold it till your done... have had illegal activity on my card twice now... sob's ... . what about them being on the cell phone while pumping, thought that was a no no. im going to start videoing my gas station encounters with these guys cause ive got plenty of stories, i had to call cops twice. Im not the only one around here with these probs. so i know its not me

mom caught a load of gas in her volvo 740 turbo diesel when the stations tanks apparently were crossed up, it has a VE pump and survived the experience, it had enough diesel in the lines to make it the 1/2 mile home before it started the death rattle, i drained the tank and filter, refilled the filter with ATF for a little lube and something to burn with the gas mix in the lines till fresh #2 got there, seen a few diesels with gas in em and they usually fair ok, gassers with diesel in em are not usually as happy

The older trucks might get away with flushing everything out.
The newer cr s due to high pressure will ruin your injectors.
cp3, just about everything in your fuel system.

From what I've read on alternative fuel forums a 12-valve can handle up to about 30% gasoline. I wouldn't run it on that much though! You can get away with 20% or so as long as you threw a few quarts of motor oil in it but best bet is to just drain it all and start over. Most of the time those "fillups" on gas end up being just that, mostly gas.

Hello

My personal experience with gas in the diesel. after a long road trip I stopped at a fuel station the gauge was reading just above a Half a tank( I always fuel up at about a Half a tank) well the attendant comes out I tell her Fill it up with diesel, She is Really cute Well like a Dumb %^@ i am looking at her and not what she is doing. when she finishes and hands me the reciept I am doing my mileage calculations using the reciepts I realize that she has just put in 12 gallons super unleaded into my fuel tank. I am in a small town no real dealer or repair facilities, I am in a jam I find 5 gallon bucket and cycle the pump draining about 4 gallons of the mixed fuel, I then Added 16 ozs of howes fuel treatment and topped off with Diesel and went on my way every fuel station I stopped and added more diesel and howes I did not seem to suffer any ill affects from this incident.

Alright, gotta' tell this one from last summer... . long winded but illustrates that some people should simply not own a Diesel anything!!!!!

To set the stage you need to know that most of the Irving Gas Stations in Maine have a dual pump on the outermost car island that has Diesel (with Green handle) on the left and the three grades of gas (with yellow or black handle) on the right.

It is very handy for Diesel cars and pick-ups as it is a small nozzle plus you are not in the way of the big trucks over at the dual nozzle lanes.

I am waiting my turn for the pump and in front of me is a 3/4 ton Dodge gassing up. I notice that he is putting gasoline in and think to myself it must be a gas sucking pig if it is a Hemi, all I can see is the tailgate at this point.

Then I see him frigging with the pump, sliding his card in it, etc. . Finally he heads inside. I know what has happened, he has hit the $80. 00 limit and has to restart everything.

I see a hole open up on the other side and back in. Look over at his truck, see a Cummins emblem on the fender, gasoline nozzle is still hanging out of the filler door and figured I had better speak up... . His wife is sitting in the truck, I stick my head in the window and ask her if the truck is indeed a Diesel, she replies that it is so I proceed to inform her that Hubby has just pumped it full of gas. She is no dummy and proceeds to call him a few choice names in his absence.

I can see that she has a clue so I tell her to yank the keys, DO NOT START IT!

I tell her I will stick around to pull the truck away from the pumps if needed until a tow can be arranged.

Hubby comes back out and she proceeds to tell him what he has done. I show him the pumps to help explain and he still isn't getting it. he has owned the truck since new, 2006 just like mine, and proceeds to tell me how many injectors it has destroyed in 60,000 miles.

I'm thinking I can see why... ... ... ... ... :-laf:-laf:-laf

Send for a tow, they arrive and want to start it. As luck would have it I know the mechanic that showed up, told him to not start the truck under any circumstances until all of the gas was pumped out and explain to him that it is not like an old 855 or something. he understands and promises to get all the gas out that he can.

Then they are all wondering how to get new fuel back in it as they do not have Diesel at his shop.

I look at the doomed Dodge and ask the befuddled owner what the tank is on the back of the truck?? He tells me it is a Transfer Flow tank.

I say "Why don't you fill the Transfer Tank with fuel while you are still here at the pump and then open the valve to refuel yourself at the shop after the pick-up tank is pumped out????

Well, you would think I had just invented the Microwave Oven or something!!!

Everyone thought that was a great plan, so the owner steps up to the pump, I turn away to help the tow truck hook on, turn back and guess what he was pumping into the Transfer Flow Tank????

GASOLINE:mad::mad:

I flipped out at that point and told him if he touched the pump again I would break his arm off and stick it somewhere unpleasant!!!

I was getting tired of the good samaritan thing by now because he just didn't get it and I had invested a good hour of my vacation time already trying to save his truck. I had his wife fill the transfer tank with Diesel and got away from the whole fracas.

Some people simply can't be helped, good thing I had taken a liking to the wife and wanted to see her get home to her grandkids before the day was over. Him, well he could walk as far as I was concerned after that last stunt.

Thank goodness it seems to be too cold for them up here... ... ... ... :-laf:-laf

Personal experience (I was not manning the pump!) The gas will burn prematurely, fouling the injector nozzles, coating the turbine-throwing the shaft out of balance and causing the compressor to score the housing. End result is a new turbo, new injectors, lines, hazmat fee from jet-away or equiv for the mixed fuel haul-away, of course new filters (fuel and oil change). All paid for by the gas station if your lucky. For me that was 200,000 miles or so ago... and the last time I did NOT pump my own!

Just a note about empty main tanks and Transfer Flow tanks. If you are low enough in the main tank to illuminate the Low Fuel light, the Transfer Flow tank will not pump into the main tank. Something in the electronics prevents this. I found out once when I had the bright idea of burning out the untreated fuel in my main tank before using the treated fuel in my Transfer Flow tank before heading up north into cold weather. I unplugged the connector to the Transfer Flow and was going to just plug it back in when the Low Fuel light came on. I was about 50 miles from the next known diesel station when this happened. I ended up using a wire jumper in the connector to get it pumping.

A great story. A certified moron like the one in your story gives Cummins powered Dodge Rams a bad name. His wife who probably has the testicles in his family should make him ride only in taxis.

Jeez - - If it wasn't for Bad Luck - - you wouldn't have any luck at all! - - first a bunch of "Foreign Fuel Thiefs" get shut down and run out of town, then a buch of "US Banking Thieves" take over. Oh yea, I've had dealings with Wachovia - - Just as bad if not worse than your rag Head thieves :-{}
