I went to a unfamiliar station and saw the green pumpso I filled 'er up. Just as I finished I realized what I'd done. Yup 17 gl of gas in the tank. Luckily there was a auto shop less than a quarter mi away We siphoned the tank dry put 5 gals diesel in changed the filter and drove back to tha station and filled with diesel. I drove it home with no problem. I also added a quart of PS fuel cond. Does this sound like I covered all bases or is there something else I need to do?? I don't believe I did this. I have been driving diesels since 1980 and this is my 7th diesel.

Why does that station have a green handle on a gasoline pump? I also saw one like that and almost used it. I'd file in small claims court for your costs. Maybe they might get the hint.

I have been down the same road. You really have to watch at some stations!

It sounds to me like you should be fine. I don't think it was really required to change the fuel filter, but it didn't hurt anything. You addressed the lubrication issue. That is important! Might want to avoid towing or prolonged heavy throttle use 'til you are sure you have flushed out all the gasoline.

I think you're fine and agree with WHY was there a green handle on a gas pump. You should send your bills to this station. For me, I stick to truck stops.

I did the same thing with 600 miles on my truck. 1st time diesel vehicle. I had mine towed and the tank droped empties, lines blown, filter changed. No problems.

Gas - $27. 00

Drop tank & filter - $250. 00

Having my truck back running fine - Priceless.

I noticed soon after I bought my truck that you can't go by the color of the handle. I usually will read the label on pump and have a sniff of the nozzle before I pump.

Re:

Thanx I appreciate all the response. I towed 10k boat up north the on the 1st and it pulled just fine. I hope by posting this it will help someone else. It was clearly my fault but whats up with the green pump handle?? That is what diesel usually is . Oh well all is well.

From my 22 years of living in Ohio, I recall that BP (after they bought out Sohio) had green handles on their gasoline pumps.

Rusty

I don't know about anywhere else but here in MO there have been a butt load of BP (Beyond Petroleum) stations going up and all of their handles are green. Personnally I think they are asking for trouble but what do I know, I'm just a "dumb farmer" who drives a rattlin old stinky diesel. Ha Ha Ha.

almost 99% of the diesel pump handles around my area are black... doesn't matter if you go to shell, sunoco, biodiesel, esso, petrocanada.

now, most of the regular gas handles are yellow, and the premuim are red on shell stations, petrocanada is red for gas, esso is black for gas, sunoco is yellow and red for gas... .

re:

I have since fueled up twice and don't look for nothing but the word---DIESEL that way I know I can't go wrong. Damn that got me upset!!!
