Hi all I am new to the TDR site, I hope you all can help.

On a trip back from Yuma, AZ. about 160 miles from San Diego I accidently put about 7 gallons of gas in my truck. I already had over half a tank of diesel but in Yuma it is 35 cents cheaper so I added some.

Don't know how It happened, used the black nozzel, same station I have been to for years, I go out there every 2-3 weeks.

I have had this truck for 5 years and have never put gas in it by accident or any other reason. It has been awsome and bulletproof. (stock trans also)

So. . it ran ok for 30 miles and while coming to a stop it died, later another 80 miles at a rest area coming to a stop it died again.

My power was down and so was the idle, EGT was up. I had no idea what was up.

The truck is a Ram 2500, 1996 12 valve, 96K, auto, 4x4, CC, 3. 54's with 305/70/16's with the banks stinger plus kit, different turbo housing, big exhaust, fuel plate, and KnN filter. (I don't drive it that much)

I took it to a shop and they found the problem but they adjusted the idle up and the fuel pump up? also. I filled the tank with DIESEL this time!! and I have driven it back to Yuma and all over town probably 700 miles since, it runs great except..... after I burned all the gas out... .

Now the idle is too high around 1000 rpm, and the egt heats up to 900 easy, I have to watch the guage driving unloaded up hills.

But the truck starts at a half a crank and has more power, and believe me it had lots of power already, the banks kits are awsome, it was like a new truck with a much bigger motor when I added the kit in 2003.

The shop says "everybody loves the extra power don't worry about the egt at 1000-1200 no big deal... . what about when I tow with it again???

I hate to go back to the shop and make them adjust it back but I don't know how to adjust the pump back to where It was, Idle I can do... I installed the Banks stuff myself I am pretty handy with a wrench.

any suggestions?

Thanks and sorry for the long post...

Pete H in El Cajon, CA.

It is hard to say what they adjusted in the pump probly slid the plate. But 1250 egt preturbo is fine all day long. And hotter than that on sort burst. So just enjoy the power.

Thanks for the reply,

Yep I guess the higher readings are ok, 1200 and my gauge is pre turbo.

I occasionally pull a 24' 6500 lb boat and camper, in 2003 and 04 we went to Shasta Lake a 650mile trip each way. I pulled the grapevine out of LA in overdrive with a 1100 egt reading, at night though. Coming back (steeper) in drive at 1100-1200 at 20psi boost. For those who don't know, the grapevine is a 8-12 mile 6% grade one of the worst in CA.

The truck pulls great, I am afraid I will lose the excellent temps when I tow with it again. I am not worried about unloaded temps. We will be towing the boat up to Lake Nacimiento in August, through the "vine" again.

Thanks... ...
