Archived Gas In Tank

My Brother put about 30 gal's of gas in his 2006 2500. he drove home about 3 miles with no issues, but noticed the truck was running rough when he started it this morning. It hit him like a ton of bricks that he had put gas in his truck and he quickly shut it off. What damage might have occurred and what should he do now?

Probly very little damage if any. Drain the tank. refill with diesel and add 1 quart of 2 stroke oil to add lub to the diluted fuel.

dont forget to change the fuel filter. I did the same thing, but caught it before I started the truck.



We siphoned out as much of the fuel as possible, added 1 gallon of Howes and filled it up with #2. That was several months ago and I've had no issues since.



In your case, I would do the above, run the truck for a few miles to clear out the lines, then replace the fuel filter.

PS. I used Howes because that is what the truck stop shop had handy. If it had been available, I would've used PS. Two 96 oz jugs would be 1-1/2 gallons of lubricity additive.

If the truck runs it will clean out the filter itself with the return flow. Or if it doesn't you could just dump out the filter and put it back on.

I have a diesel 4 cyl Isuzu RV that I filled with 16 gal of gas in a 35 gal tank... Flying J on some stations have a gas pump mixed in with their diesel pumps in there truck islands... not good... . didn't catch it till I drove a 100 miles. . I noticed some loss in power and I got off freeway... it had a tough time idleing ... I topped off the tank with 6 gal of diesel... I still did not realize what I had done earlier... . Got to a camp ground , spent the night ,next day I could hardly start the thing . . clouds of white smoke & wouldn't hardly run till it warmed up some... back on the road and going down hills it would really backfire out the exhaust pipe . . I still didn't know it was the gas in the tank... Later I thought hummmm ... so I got some fuel out of the tank poured it on the side walk ,threw a match on it and wooosh ... . then I knew... Drained the tank and refilled ... It cured all the problems. . Tho now it seems to have lost some performance. I could have washed down the walls or damaged the injectors or the pump (it's an inline like a p7100) ... Anyone else ran any distance on a 50/50 mix and if so what did it do? Ps. . I'd love to put a cummins in this thing... ... ... ... ...

My friend bought a Chevy S-10 which had an Isuzu non-turbo diesel in it. Smoked like a banshee and was slow as heck but ran and ran. Put a water pump on it @140,000,that's it. He never tried adding gas to it though.

Having had a 50:50 mix inadvertantly in a '98, IMHO - change fuel filter or dump it. bleed injector lines. If the truck was running rough you could have coked carbon on the injectors and could have coked the turbo - check the compressor side of the turbo for wobble and scoring. What did you do the the block and pistons - prob'ly nada!!
