Really? I've never seen an RV water heater with the switch outside. Why don't you install a switch inside like over the kitchen counter and route the wires down through an under counter cabinet to the water heater?

Yep! Mine was wired with the switch outside and I ran the wiring up behind the sinkbase cabinet and installed the switch. Harvey, your rig probably has the Atwood hwh... ..... ours is 'the other brand':-laf:-laf:-laf I had the Atwood in my old MH and it was superior to the one I have now. Don't say it... . I know:-laf:-laf

Our 10 gal Suburban has two electric switches. One on the heater behind the door with the pin like Jim's, and we also have a switch inside. Looks like a light switch. Both have to be on for electric use. We use electric 98% of the time. Occasionally during a power outage we switch to propane so we will have hot water for the morning showers. Our electric element provides us with all the hot water we need.

Our Holiday Rambler has the switch under the counter near the water heater. I installed a switch beside the circuit breaker box so I don't have to Get my old decrepit, fat body under the counter. Some times I use both propane & electric to heat the water when I first turn the water heater on & then go to electric. It doesn't hurt to run on propane once in a while.

Alan,

I wasn't even thinking of making a sarcastic comment. I assumed the Atwood and Suburban brands were similar and roughly equal. Are they not?
