I thought I was getting a 34gal tank, but every time I get to the pump with the truck right above "E" I can only put in @28gals. :(

How much reserve is needed, 5-6gals???

Can I take the truck 80 miles on "E"???

I don't really want to ever do that, but if I have too, I want to be confident that I can.

;) You have a 34 gallon tank. If you fuel at the time the low level light comes on, you should be able to put in about 25 to 26 gallons. That leaves 9 gallons. I have run 715 miles on one tank with 3 and 1/2 gallons to spare. My mileage was 22. 3 on that trip and that was from Sherwood oregon to salmon Idaho, through Spokane to Missoula and down. Two very larg passes to go over. When you fill, make sure you fill to the bitter top where you cannot get another drop in. It can be scary. At the low light on my truck I know I have 9 gallons left at 20 mpg that give me 180 miles. :D :D It's fun when your nervous:rolleyes: Best mileage I get is 24. 22 at 60mph. I have 44,000 on mine now. Enjoy:D Ther is a chance that I might be down in Texas after the first of the year. If I make the trip, I can give you very precise fuel figures and mileage as I keep a very detailed log on my palm pilot. Run a 32 oz bottle of power service once a month and enjoy the truck. -Wally-:D :D

Be Careful

First Post (I guess I finally have something to add of value)

When I first got my Ram I had it sittin' in the driveway about to go on a road trip. I was on Empty and had been for a couple of miles. I had done the math in my head should have about 60-80 miles left in the tank. Engine sputtered and shut down. I took my other truck and got 5. 5 gallons of fuel in a can. Got it started up after a few cranks (thank God!!) and drove to the station. Topped off the tank at 26. 1 gallons. I'm not good at math but that is 31. 6 gallons.

Moral of the story: Just because you have a 34 Gallon Tank doesn't mean you have 34 gallons of fuel to burn.
