WARNING to TDR classifieds sellers

I have just become a proud new owner of 12v 4x4 and I

I have a question for you all. I am planning on going to the Mt's in a couple of days and don't know what to do about my fuel. I know that If diesel gets a certain temp it gels. So I was wondering if there are additives that I could add to my tank or should I mix #1 w/ the #2 that I am running now? Thanks for your help.

:(

I run Stanadyne or even the cheap walmart additive here in Alaska, and it does just fine. If the ambient temps aren't going to dip too low (around freezing), even #2 should be just fine by itself, however I would personally still run some kind of additive. Stanadyne is supposedly some of the best, however, the Cummins Northwest shop up here in Anchorage recommends the Valvoline diesel additive, but I've never had any problems with other brands either (although when it's really cold, I run the straight #1 fuel with a good dose of additive, and it doesn't even show a hint of gelling even down to -40 ambient) I guess it's just a matter of personal preference. I think any of them will work just fine with #2 down to even around single digit temps. Only use #1 if the temps get really low, or you feel that you need to. It doesn't lubricate near as well as #2, and you'll get worse mileage too. It's up to you. Just use that info, and mix and match however you feel comfortable for the temps that you expect.

On the flightline where I work, the diesel trucks run "DF-8" in them (just a real creative name for JP-8 jet fuel. ) Talk about crappy "dry" fuel... And they wonder why all the diesels have so many problems... Only run dry fuels if you have to! (By "dry" I mean #1 or colder-rated. Not much lubrication in them. )

Thanks

:D Thanks for the info. I will stick w/ the #2 then. I live in California and the local Mt here don't get colder that about 15 degrees. So thanks for the help!

More info.

There is a fuel heater at you fuel filter. Then the injection pump passes a lot of fuel back to the tank--after a few minutes running the whole tank is warmed by the overflow fuel.

And I've read that engine oil should be added to fuels as dry as #1. I forget the rate--but you definitly want to add something. I'd go with #2 and some OTC type additive.
