Is there an actual gasket on the timing cover, or just RTV? I can get the crankshaft seal today, have to order a gasket, but if I can RTV it I can have it back on the road tonight. I really don't want to leave the Wife home without a car another day.

There is an actual gasket. I would highly recommend using the gasket instead of just RTV. That just seems to be asking for problems to me.

Just my $0. 02 worth

I just finished working on mine a week ago. I agree with Carl about the gasket. It is a fairly stiff gasket, I used Copper non hardening sealant on both sides as well.

Go with the gasket. Hay Jdonoghue we are almost neibors I live in swanton Oh. not very far south of blisfield. I wandered how long before sombody else around here wold join. Welcome to the luny land.

Just a note, I took my cpl number with me to cummins and they still gave me the wrong gasket, seems there is two. My 92 took the gasket no. 3914385 from cummins at 15. 68 . I wouldn't use just silicon there, however, there are places that I would, just not there. By the way, the two gaskets were similar, just wrong hole pattern, slightly off, I don't know why. Tim

Just the gasket and do your torque pressure and sequence with care is all... ...

If you want you can use just a touch of something to hold it on the gear case, but just sparingly.

Anyone else with different thoughts????? jump in here... HEY MARK... .
