I'm thinking about while I have the getrag and 205 out of the truck, changing the gaskets between them. What gaskets are needed or does anyone have a parts breakdown pic of the rear of the getrag/extension housing and t-case? My output seals are relatively new so, I'm not gonna mess with them. Is there anything else in the way of seals or gaskets between them?

I have a small leak in this area, and picked up a gasket for this. It is just a small fiber looking ring, with bolt holes. I will go out and get the MOPAR part number for you in a little while.

MOPAR # 04340247 is on the package. Only description is " GASKET PKG. " This was purchased for an auto equipped truck, hope it is the same.

Ok I searched through Quad4x4's site, very nice with pics. Looks as though I'll need the t-case to adaptor gasket, getrag to adaptor gasket, then two seals, one for getrag output, and one for t-case input.

Any tips or precautions I should be aware of when pulling the t-case, then adaptor apart/off the getrag?

I read through the service manual on the Getrag overhaul the other night, and it said to use Mopar gasket maker or Loctite 518 on the trans case to rear bearing retainer (t-case adapter). If you take that off and put a gasket in there, you will have to re-shim your bearings. I personally don't think you WANT a gasket there, it will never hold up over time and your bearing preload will change. You want metal to metal.

I removed the t-case from the trans. Should I dig any deeper ? Reckon I should remove the adaptor from back of the getrag and replace that seal?

I've always had a noise/howl in 5th gear only. With this adaptor removed can I service anything back there?

Looks dry, I don't think I'd mess with it unless I were prepared to do some work once inside the trans. Clean and lube the splines and jam it back together.

That dry sleeve looks just like the 2 I have had apart. The first one because it ruined the spline on 205, which are not that easy to find for getrags. Notice how the grease is flung out, think we would be better off if one of the seals leaked lube onto spline. Definitly grease the heck out of sleeve.

Neither of my 5 spds made noise or had the play in them often mentioned, yet they had serious problems in bearings or syncro's. Better and cheaper to rebuild now, or at least check your trans before it blows. Glad I did. (stock only 160 hp)

Brake cleaner to clean the sleeve and getrag output shaft splines? How about antiseize for greasing them or should I use something else? Only other grease I have is what is in my grease pump for grease fittings and such.

I use a small wire brush the size of a tooth brush or like welders use to get inside sleeve. The lube is a toss up as one of mine had anti seize and the other grease, both thrown off. I chose bearing grease as it seems to keep rust away a little better than anti seize. Be sure to work it into both inner an outer splines. In this case too much lube is probably good.

Correction: It was white grease instead of anti sieze that was thrown off. It was on my clutch spline the anti seize had squezed out and seemed to attract rust.

Some stuff that I found would stick in there is quicksilver (Mercruiser) spline grease. I bought some when I had to replace the gimbal bearing on my boat a few years back. This stuff stays on splines pretty good. I used it on the coupler and it was still on there after about 20k.
