Would there be any benefit of Using Header Wrap on the Turbo(hot side) and Down pipe on our Cummins Engines?. The Theory of the Header Wrap is that it will Keep the exhaust gases hotter as its moving down the pipe creating less back pressure. The Local Muffler shop said that I would Melt the Turbo!. I dont Believe it. Any thoughts?

DieselRam, the keep the exhaust manifold hot theory is supposed to improve turbo efficiency. Keep the gases expanding until after they exit the turbo will allow you to better use the energy being released.

Take a look at my turbo cover, it is about 1/2 way down on the right. The pics take a while to load.

I have had Moroso header wrap on my ram for three years and its in as good of shape as the day I put it on. I have got a very low stall converter so I need the turbo to spool up as soon as it can. The wrap did make it spool up sooner. Now I have put a Geno,s Garage exhaust blanket on top of the wrap haven;t got a chance to drive it yet but it sure looks good

I had header wrap on mine for 3+ years as well, I took it off when I installed my hx 40 and am going to put it back on, when I origanally put it on it made 1 lb boost more,

Doug is right. I have had Thermo-tech exhaust wrap on my downpipe & Turbo outlet for 3 years. Still Looks brand new.

I put a 4" JRE exhaust on recently. I had Geno`s exhaust blanket and the exhaust wrap on the OE pipes. Didn`t bother putting exhaust blanket & wrap back on. Figured it didn`t do much.

Wrong! Popped my hood one day and couldn`t believe the heat that was radiating from the exhaust side of the engine. My Psychotty induction cone was VERY hot.

This morning the exhaust blanket & header wrap were put back on! #ad

For another opinion on this topic check out my post in "GENERAL DIESEL". The thread is "How hot does the turbo housing get?"
