Which is better? Why do some prefer Goodyear Gatorback?

I don't know what the big deal is with Gatorback belts. I went to our local O'reilly's auto parts and picked up one made by Gates.

It comes with a lifetime warranty. Good enough for me.

Supposedly the big deal with the Gatorback is it will eliminate the shutdown "Chirp". Mine is still a stock belt, so i cant confirm this. I have used Gates belts and hose on every vehicle, boat and piece of heavy equipment etc i have ever worked on. They are definatley first rate products

Chirp, Chirp...

I can acknowledge the elimination of the dreaded “Chirp” to the Gatorback belt. I had this for 10K miles. The day I changed to the Gatorback (and PS High Idler Pulley) was the last of that little birdie The Gatorback offer’s a lifetime warranty so, I use the stock belt for a spare.



Go to the SSCCRREEP/CCHIRP!!(noise when shuting off) post for some more feedback. I see you’re a sixspeeder, you may be immune to the little birdie



BTW, I got mine from CarParts.com with a discount coupon. I think it was around $18.

I have not used any of the Goodyear products on my truck yet. But have on other vehicles including my last 1988 chevy 1 ton . They have worked great and there replacement on lifetime was easy and no questions asked.

I've had the Gatorback on for 40,000 miles now without a chirp. Before that, it chirped every time I shut down. They supposedly have a lifetime warranty, but I think there's a clause in the fine print about vehicle weight that our trucks don't meet. My . 02

Thanks for the updated info. Be that as it may, I don't feel too safe running any belt for more than 60,000 miles. I think of it as cheap insurance, especially when you take the price of the belt relative to the price of a new engine. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm just happy that the chirp is gone.

Gatorback belt

I can't verify this on my new truck since I haven't changed the belt yet, but I sure can on the old truck. I installed a Gatorbak and the squeak stopped instantly. And it has been really humid here in western Tennessee.
