I recently put a new motor in my truck due to an oil pump failure. The truck has driven fine for past 2 weeks. Now I have a problem I cant figure out. The truck starts and drives great for about 2 miles, then the cluster dings at me (the ding you hear when the low fuel light comes on). It will ding periodically until you come to a stop, then it will ding again and the cluster gauges goes dead and the airbag, abs, and fuel light comes on. Also when you are idling in drive and the cluster goes dead the odometer shuts off and reads(no bus)Everything will go back to normal as soon as you put it park or neutral or you bump the throttle a little. I thought maybe the tst was causing this,so I removed it. It is still got the problem. I am really stumped and would appreciate any comments or insight to this issue. I was curious if the ignition switch in the column could cause this.

Any codes?

If not reseat all the connections to the ECM. You might have a connection that looks good but really isn't. Did the dash come apart during the new engine install? If so have a look at the back of that also.

Any other suggestions?

This problem actually happened after the truck was running and we removed the plugs from the ecm. (The wiring harness was left attached during the rebuild). We removed the ecm afterwards to fix an oil leak and the ecm was disconnected from the harness. I checked the connections and it is tight. Can I put dielectric grease in the connector to give it a better connection?Could this be my problem? Thanks.

Your loosing the power, ground, or the bus. Check the connectors at the cluster. If the bus is going down it could be another module pulling it down. If it is consistent you can disconnect other modules off the bus until the problem goes away. If not consistent it may be very difficult to find.
