I just recieved my new gauges (Autometer Z series) from Joe at Fast Lane West. Now for the serious question and answer period... I have the Pyro install down, my questions are geared more toward the Boost and Trans Temp gauges. From what I have read the Boost install is not a big deal but some more info/clarification would be appreciated. My main concern is the Trans Temp install. What is the best way to go about this? I have read of a "kit" from Jannety? Any help on getting this done the right way will be greatly appreciated. If there is anyone in the Central Cal area that I can learn from that would be great also.

I have also just recieved my PE/EZ, cant wait until this is all buttoned up!!!!!!! Am I considered BOMB'ed???

Thanks in advance

Craig

The trans temp sender install kit is about 45 bucks from Jannetty, it has everything you need to install it. All you need is a tubing cutter and 2 wrenches. The sender will install in the line to the cooler. For the boost gauge, you have to ways to do it, one is the plug behind the fuel filter, but there are 3 downsides to this option, one, its hard to get to, two, you need to use a nipple extension since the block curves and wont let you install a standard reducer and third and most importantly, you may have gauge buzzing and pulsing since that source is so close to the cylinder. The best place to get you boost source is the intake pipe where the dipstick bracket it bolted on. Simple to work on, just unbolt it, drill and tap the back side where it faces the firewall and put it back. No chance of pulsing either. When you order the trans temp fitting kit just ask them for a spare intake gasket. If you have any questions or need pics, let me know.

If you want to do the transmission temp the best way, go get the DC cooler line for a '95. It has the tap for the sender as part of the line. No splicing involved. That is what DTT recommends and I agree. ~$80

E. M. – I ordered the kit from Jannetty yesterday for $35. What type of tube cutter do you use? A rotary one for cutting copper water pipe? Guess it would have to be a small one to have room for it to rotate around the cooler line. I also still need to identify which cooler line to cut. I know it's the line leaving the Trans. How do you tell which is which?

Mounted the Pyro. Probe last night. Left the turbo on and used a vacuum as I drilled. Spent 30min. looking for metal shavings with a magnet. Didn’t find much at all. Guess the vacuum got most of it.

Thanks.

I used the Jannett kit when I installed mine a couple of weeks ago. I took the line off from the transmission to the cooler. Cut the tube into and them measure how much to cut out of the pipe to keep the same length after the kit is installed. The line you want to use is the one with check valve in it. Mine had a flex hose from the check valve to the cooler. (that is the cooler on the side of the evngine) I subjest that you look to see where the best place to install the kit into the line befor you remove it. I lost about 3 1/2 Qt of fluid when I removed the pipe. Hope this helps.

A tubing cutter like you use on copper pipe works fine. I cut mine while the line was in place, but you can take the line out if that easier for you.

I am about to install a EGT & boost guage. i was wondering how you ran all the wires, tubes ect thru the firewall. I heard that there is a gromet under the dash but I cant seem to find it.

Large Rubber Grommet(s)

If you have an auto truck, you can use the large rubber grommet on the firewall just behind the master cylinder. If you have a manual truck you can use the grommet that the main wiring harness to the cab passes through, it is also located on the firewall behind the master cylinder, just behind the brace that supports the hinge spring.

If you have an auto it should be to the upper right, as you are looking at the firewall from under the hood, where the steering column comes thru the firewall. Its about a 2" black plug with a 3/4" passage.

Hailing You Locals

Hey you guys from NorCal, if you want to learn more about your trucks then you need to hang out with some major "BOMBed" dudes.

Adam (MY6EATSV8S) and I will be at the sled pull in Plymouth this Friday if you want to chat with some real gearheads:) Check this thread -

Dr. Kayak, Plymouth is just down the sidewalk for you. Bombero, we are in Santa Rosa frequently if you can stand some stinky #2 smellin' bucks for a I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER chat. CDogg, motor up here, maybe it'll be a tad cooler then Freezno.
