I recently became the proud owner of my first oil burner. I wish to have a pyro, boost and trans. temp gauges installed. I need advise as which brand to have installed and who does a good job of intalling them.

Thank You!

Congrats! I bought DiPricols from Genos Garage. They have good prices. The good thing about these guages is that they look like the factory gauges in your truck, so they look like they belong, know what I mean. I also used a pod that goes on my dash. I didn't want loose the a-pillar handle so this was the best option, and I really like it. As for the install, they came with instructions, so the install wasn't too bad. Took me about 5-6 hours I think. Hope this help some way.

Scott Rogers,

I bought a BD-X-Monitor, from Geno's Garage. At the time, a guage pod for the top of the dash was not available. I tried what they had with the DiPricol's but, couldn't get it to work so, I sent it back for the X-Monitor, which, fits nicely under the grab bar on the A-pillar. The grab bar is nice to have to help getting into the truck.

The X-Monitor works well, for me. Some people like the analog guages better because you can just glance at the guage and see the position of the needle and pretty much know where you are at. With the digital readout of the X-Monitor, you have to actually read the numbers on the guage to determine where you are at.

I have analog's on my '91. 5 W-250 and like them just a little bit better than the digital readout. But, it's not a big deal, to me, at all.

The X-Monitor is a pretty neat installation, also.

I believe, I read that Isspro has some new guages that people really like, also. Might want to check them, & others out, also.

Another decision you will need to make is regarding the position of the pyrometer probe for exhaust gas temps. Most of us are installing the probe into the rear channel of the exhaust manifold, just slightly above the junction of the manifold and the turbo. Some are installing the probe in the downpipe just below the backside of the turbo. If you choose that location, you will have to add 2-300 deg's. to what the guage reads, to get an accurate reading of what temps are really occurring.

I'm not a mechanic or an expert in these matters. There are plenty of guys here that have forgotten more than I know. But, I thought I'd pass on some of my experiences to give you a bit of an idea of some of the choices you have.

BTW, I live in the NW Phoenix area (Bell Rd. & 35 Ave. , area). If you would like to see the X-Monitor installed, I'd be glad to show you. PM me, if you would like to.

Hope this helps.

Do-it-yourself

I purchased the Isso's from Genos. Did the install myself, took about 6 hours all together. I Put mine above the rear view mirror. Love them there. Pretty easy to install, even pulling the headliner down. The Isso's match truck gauges exactly. Check out my readers rigs I put pics.

Scott,

Fred Swanson, who's a member here, does installs and is widely recommended from folks in the valley and on TDR. I plan on going to him soon for the same items. He has a website as well, desertdieselparts.com .

By the way, welcome aboard. It's nice to have another Phx area member to suffer the 115 degree heat with. Congrats on the new truck!

A second for Fred Swanson @ Desert diesel parts. HE is a great guy and does quality work at very reasonable prices. You are lucky, he is right in your back yard!

Congrats on your new rig!
