Has anyone had any experience with "diesel specialist" in Las Vegas? I'm considering them to install gauges on my rig. I'm kind of new to this area and don't know to many people. They supply Isspro and I guess this product is alright. Thanks in advance

Isspro's are good. Although the boost gauge has a tendancy to rattle under hard acceleration or hill pulling but are quiet during normal driving. Cant help you an the shop issue.

Rich, After doing my own, I couldn't imaging paying someone to do the installation unless you have zero time or another limitation. Pre-project anxiety was the worst of the problem.

Charlie I just ordered my gauges from Bully Dog. I got the egt, boost, and trans. autometer gauges. I'm doin' the A pillar mount on my '99. Was it pretty painless?
Thanx

Rich... I am with Charliep on the gauge install. When I first received my set of gauges and thought about the idea of drilling and tapping a perfectly good manifold I was more than a little concerned, I even checked with a few shops to see who could/would do the install. At the time I had been getting alot of good advice from fellow TDR member D. Dressler who convinced me to just do it myself. I did and can't tell you how pleased I am that I did it myself. You'll be learning more about your truck in the process and it will give you confidence to tackle larger projects down the road. Try it, you'll like it !!!!

Yeah, do the job yourself. What you learn will help you understand how the engine operates and why things happen as they do. It will also prepare you for the other things you'll want to do to it later on.

Thanks for the encouragement, I think I might just give it a try. I still haven't decided which gauges to get. I've been looking at Geno's garage they seem to be priced right and they can supply everything I would need. The West Tach gauges are good quality. Thanks to all. Rich #ad

Big A,
I'm just over the hill from you(Happy Canyon)
I have Boost and EGT gauges. Just got a SW fuel pressure gauge, will be installing.
Have to agree with everyone else. Pretty easy install. Welcome to look at mine when you are over in the Castle Rock area.

I plan on ordering the SPA EGT/Boost and Trans Temp/diff temp guages from HVAC shortly. I don't know a **** thing about wiring or electrical circuitry #ad
, and drilling a hole in my perfectly good manifold #ad
makes the pucker factor a "10" I think I may opt to have it done by someone with a little more experience.

Hey Buff, I guess you know how I feel. I'm not much with electrical and can screw up a wet dream. But I might still give it a shot. I didn't know I could get them from HVAC? Thanks again for all the input. Still trying to make my old mind. #ad

Big A, I installed my Isspros a couple weeks ago. You're welcome to look at them if you like; I also have the 1/4 NPT tap for the manifold if you want to borrow it. If not, I found it at Hugh M. Woods on Arapahoe, the NPT taps seem to be a little hard to find in our area. I'll email you my phone number.

These are the SPA digital gauges that Davit_VT found on the web one day after which Mike C. sorta latched onto. We started selling them and a number of other vendors have followed our lead.

I have the isspro pyro/boost & temp gauge w/3fer pillar mount. Did 1/2 myself and sought help at McBrides in Chino for the cutting and finalizing it.

After the fact, and watching them do it, I admit that drilling is easy - IF you know where to drill!! I didn't then, I do now!

Big hints: Pyro: Go post turbo (so any bits of metal blow into muffler) and don't drill on the casting seam. Drill 'off center' and tap. Scheids in Illinois will sell you one drilled and tapped if you want convenience.

Boost: Remove intake hose, shove a shop cloth up the manifold and drill low. That way any metal chips won't get into the engine.

Power and electrical: Tie in at the mini fuse box on the side of the dash with the little clips (can't remember what they call them). Gauge lights to dimmer #5 and power at cigar lighter #15.

Remove 4 screws at bottom of dash, and the dash face pulls off, giving you more room to access. Pillar just pops off and new one mounts on top of the old one. I had to carve mine up a bit to accommodate the tweeter.

Have at it and good luck. Take your time.
