I know this will boil down to personal preference, just like what syle of gauge you want, but what about the pros & cons of the a-pillar or dash mounts for the gauges. Is one better than the other? Which one is easier to install? Even without any guages mounted on the pillar I have a large blind spot. By the look of the pictures I've seen this will enhance that blind spot to a possible hazard in watching for other vehicles crossing in front of you. Bear with me, I sometimes think to in-depth, and just have to see how it looks first hand before I can come to a conclusion.

Still confused, but getting slowly educated.

I had much the same thought about increasing the blind spot, but I actually haven't noticed any detrimental effect. The gauges are easy to read with out moving my head. I also like the look on the ferd boys face when they see the gauges. The gauges were easy to install and the tubes and wiring come up the side of the dash without cutting any holes.

Same reason I did my gauges on the A-Pillar.

Talk about turning heads too!! Pass anybody and if they look in the window they usually get 3" eyes.

Here is what my gauges look like going down the road.

Gauges are an excellent diagnostic tool. No more worring about a Bad lift pump, or leaking intercooler hoses... . or High Auto transmission temps.

It also helps if you have a couple hundred extra ponies under the hood.

I have had them both ways, that is on the dash and A Pillar now. I think the A Pillar is cleaner. Does not add much to the existing blind spot. Visor on the outside of the door created a bigger blind spot problem than the gauges. Very easy to wire. Remove the old cover and install the gauge pod with a screw at the top. SNOKING

Just to give you one the other way, I went with the Dash Pod.

The old dash pods that mounted up top and look like frog eyes suck. The GaugeWorks pod that mounts down under the windshield is nice.

Pros - easy to read and glance at, nice location IMO, no blind spot problems, far away from my face. Mostly went there because I have an auto and a 3 gauge a piller seemed obtrusive to me. The top gauge was too close to the face. I did not like that think staring at me like that.

Cons - Mounting little harder, possibly drill holes in dash, reflection in windshield. ( took a few weeks to get used to it. Now I dont notice it at all ).

I did not like the looks of the A-pillar mount in photos. Looks too big. But when you look at them from the drivers position they are not bad at all. I'm happy with the A-pillar mount.

From a releatively new BOMBER, put the on the A-pillar. They don increase the blind spot by much, none if you tend to lean on the center arm rest. The window vent shade is worse than the A-pillar mount. I was very hesitant about mounting my gauges on the pillar, now I am glad I did.

Center Pod

Even without any guages mounted on the pillar I have a large blind spot.

My feelings exactly. With my vent visor and if I chose to add pillar gauges I felt it would look too busy.

The Gaugeworks center pod makes for a nice clean look. It does make the installation a bit harder, but it is well worth the effort:D

Can you see the A-Pillar gauges clearly if you wear thick bi-focal glasses? (It's a disguise, I'm in the Federal Witless Protection Program. )

Great location. Where did you get the pod? How hard was the installation?

Got mine on the pillar, I like them. It does block my view a bit, but not too bad, I'd do it again.

In my 98 with gray interior, "Model master custom spray enamel" paint in # FS 36076 "Panzer Gray" was an exact match!!

It is a US Gear pod from Diesel Injection Service (in the links)

It was $35 and the install was ok. I just velcroed it to the mat so it is removable.

gauges

Since the topic is gauges, I have a coupla questions. I assume that with the gauges mounted on the dash (ala' the Gaugeworks mount), some holes will have to drilled in the dash to route wires. Correct?

Secondly, I note that many EGT gauges have 7' long connecting wires which from what I understand, cannot be extended without affecting the gauge's calibration. The question being, is 7' long enough to reach to the typical "A" pillar install?

Thanks,

Tim

Don't Touch That Drill !

All the wires on mine run up a trough at the window pillar. I don't think anyone drills holes even with the pod that fits in the dash center. Just run the wire bundle behind the windshield. The 7Ft wire was plenty long for me. ;)
