By looking at my setup, what would be a better buy. A electric fuel pressure gauge or a warning light.

I am also worried that with the new injectors and mabye stacking a smarty that I am going to run into fuel problems. I am on my second VP and lift pump. First carter went out at about 20,000 miles the VP at about 35,000. I now have 60,000 on the truck.

What kind of fuel system upgrade would you suggest for my set up?

The gauge is best, cause the light only illuminates @ 3psi & lower. If your pump goes bad & only pushes say 4psi, then that can burn the vp44 down & no light.

I have a isso & it works well, but if you want acurate readings..... get a fuel pressure isolator. It really made the needle stay steady @ 16psi. Instead of all that jumping around. I'm not familiar with the 392 kit. Is that the light kit?

A light will still show you have low pressure, but you won't see the "trend" if the LP is just slowly dieing... I run a light in my dad's since he really wouldn't watch a guage... and the "kit" was free in the campaign pumps we got from Cummins...

I also run a light in mine, but with the CP3, pressure is less critical than the flow... it will flicker when I start to get low pressures... I know this for a fact.

What is a CP3?

No, the isolator will provide a longer service life from your guage...

The CP3 is the VP44 equivalent in the 3rd gen rams...

RConnor - I noticed your signature says "Sept 3" DTT and F1 1. 6. If this means that this weekend you are getting the trans and sticks at the same time. I wish to share something with you - When I DTT'ed mine I went with Don's 1. 6 sticks - they are great don't get me wrong - if I had to do it all again I'd go 2s or better. MHO - because once the power starts getting DTT'ed to the ground you'll want more. Don't kid yourself, you will! So, if you spend a few more $$$ now you won't have to do it again later after you get used to the 1. 6s. Oh, and justify to wifey why you need to do so.

As far as idiot light or gauge, I hate being an idiot some times it can't be helped thought, this is "not" one of those times the choice is yours - I'd go with the gauge, you'll "see" what's going on before it's too late. If you are concerned with not noticing the gauge at night then do both - at least with the gauge you can monitor when the pumps starts acting up and with the light in conjunction that will be a plus so it visually alerts you, if your just buzzing along and the mind is elsewhere.

By the way you mentioned that you're on your 2nd Carter - Don't continue to throw your money away like I did (4 POS Carters later) go with an aftermarket pump and some big lines now to feed those hungry injectors and most importantly keep that expensive VP happy. Might I mention checking out the GFS-392 link in my signature? If Rich ever goes public I should get some stock - Just kidding - but it's a great pump/setup.

Best regards.

I have been thinking about this the whole time. My main concern is that anymore will be overkill for my stock turbo. I was also told that with the right turbo it is possible to make up to 500 horses with the 1. 6's. Plus I get this done on Sunday and he already has the injectors. I don't think he could get different ones this fast.

What is the largest injector that you think I could go with???

Thats the exact set up I am considering. I am going to add a issopro mechanical fuel gauge and should be good.

As far as making 500 hp with 1. 6 and a bigger turbo - I'm not too sure about that. My DTT guy said w/a Comp and 1. 6s I'd be close to 400. Not sure if just adding a bigger turbo would gain 100 hp. If so let me know which one you get.

I think if the bigger sticks are done right now, the better you will be going forward. Reasoning - If you have the big sticks with a stock turbo you'll have to watch your EGTs - OK, so you can do that and when it gets hot back out of it - if towing -downgear. Then once you get the bigger turbo (and you will - beleive me) you'll be set w/injectors. If you go small sticks now you'll eventually get a bigger turbo anyway then you'll have to deal with trade in loss on the 1. 6s or resell the 1. 6s and then have to find cores to send in for the bigger sticks.

So - if I had to do it again I'd go w/4s and stay low on the comp box and go pedal - more of a reason to go after the bigger turbo sooner - get it;)

As far as the GSF-392 take a look at the 2 micron filter set up. Give Rich a call - good guy.

I think I am going to stick with the combo I have now for a while. I might add an edge drag. Then eventially go for the twin turbo and mach 6 or 7's. If I go with fours now they probable won't be enough later.
