Gauge Wiring Question

I keep blowing 20 amp Cig Fuse. What did i do wrong?



I tapped into the Cig "Red" wire and ran it to the + side of Wiring Block, Ran a ground to the - side of block.



I tapped into the Dimmer wire and ran it to the gauge and a ground to to the other side.

You need to use the cigarette lighter power wire to actuate a relay in your fuseblock. The power for the relay comes direct from the battery.

That way, your cigarette lighter sees almost no increase in load.

Nevertheless, even without the relay I describe, your gauge shouldn't be drawing anywhere near 20 amp. You've got a short to ground somewhere in the wiring job.

How much experience do you have with basic wiring?

rbattelle, you were right. I did have a short. gauge is working fine know. So much for trying to wire these up with a flashlight at night.
