How many added gagues do I really need?

Does anybody else's gauges not read correct? My tach and speedo will jump up and down a few needle widths. Also my mileage computer has never been right, says I'm gettin in the low 20's I WISH! I'm lucky to get 18. DC has replaced the trip computer and the gauge cluster, didn't help. Now they don't know what to do.

The tach and speedo, noise in electical signals to the computer. Your trip computer interpolates fuel mileage from tps and other electronic inputs. with the power mods the throttle is not depressed as far so the computer is intepreting it as less fuel, even though the injectors and fueling box are delivering more fuel. There is no " flow meter " measuring fuel delivery and fuel return.

Makes sense about the trip computer, seems to get further off the more mods I do. Any guesses on the electrical noise problem? It's done it since the truck was new.

My 2001. 5 does the same thing, the needles kind of float a little.

I beleive my tach does something similar- though not severe. It bounces slightly - I think it may have something to do with the fact that you are spreading only 3500 rpm across an entire 180 degree guage, so the movement of the needle appears amplified... . put it this way, if you had a tach that went up to 9000 rpm, you wouldn't notice the jumping around - it would seem more linear.

Another theory is that the computer is interpreting the data, right? So it may only "spit-out" rpms in 50 rpm intervals - or else it may only update the information it sends to the guage every 0. 5 seconds or something like that...

Is anyone buying any of this ?! #ad
