Well guys and gals finally got back this evening after a LONG day of swinging wrenches on a couple of dodges.
First off thanks to the guys at PDR, they are great!! Got the opprotunity to talk to mark about my current setup and options on injectors, gauges, and what direction to go. Also talked to harry and boy was he great about getting me a good deal and what I wanted. Ordered injectors(185's), boost gauge, pyro and pillar mount on monday night and got them friday afternoon. I recommend, along with most everybody else, doing business with them, ESPECIALLY if you own a first gen.
Got the gauges mounted and hooked up, boy do I remember why I hate hooking up gauges
. On the drive home tonight I got 27-28 pounds of boost at about 1050 degrees. This was in fifth gear going up a long grade winding all the way. This is with my stock injectors, turbo, air filter, air filter housing with holes cut in it, and stock down pipe with dual 3" tailpipes. The only real mod is the fuel screw screwed in a ways. I was impressed. The dyno is on the fritz at work so I haven't got to run it yet. I want to run it before I swap in the new injectors.
Also today I worked with my brother on his second gen truck's transfer case. The famed snap ring failed in the tail shaft housing. 4WD also quit working last week, so we decided to rebearing/reseal it. It wasn't that bad of a job, just time comsuming to get everything cleaned up. The snap ring that retains the dogs in the synchro ring failed , causing it not to shift into 4wd.
Now for a question now that I know what my truck runs for pyro readings. It was 20 degrees out today, and I maxed out about 1050 degrees with no trailer, just an empty truck. What can I expect if the temp was say 90 degrees? Will ambient temp greatly effect egt's? I am glad that I didn't get the 35 psi gauge, am thinking that witht the new injectors in later that boost maybe in that area?
Hope to have some hp numbers before and after the injector swap. Thanks to all of you on the tdr helping me choose the mods and thanks also to pdr, great people that haven't forgotten the first gen trucks.
