Ok, I want to frame my question by stating that I had an 01, and with the fuel system issues, I had gauges.

What I want to know from you guys is if I should invest in a set of gauges for my new (and totally stock) 09. I have no intentions of changing the truck from the stock form. (unless you consider nerf bars and mudflaps a form of modding)

While I understand that these trucks are programmed to run inside certain parameters, and that we can pretty much run them as hard as we want in stock form, it seems that it might be a good idea to be able to have some insight into what is going on prior to a CEL going off.

Am I just looking to waste my money? Am I just a dude who loves to have gadgets at any price??? LOL.

But really, do I need them? I appreciate your opinions.

Thanks guys.

Aaron

I like the gauges to keep track of things while towing. My truck is stock as well. I have gauges for boost, transmission temperature and exhaust gas temperature.

I also have the typical three gauges on my '08. As the OP wrote, the truck will operate within programmed parameters and won't harm itself regardless but I also like being able to monitor operating parameters. With gauges I know when it is in the regeneration mode.

To answer your question. No, you do not need gages with a stock truck.

Yes, I have gages too and tow a 5er with my truck. I added them first just to know what is going on when towing. I feel far safer with the gages because I may see something before the idiot light is trip by the ECM to warn me of something is wrong.

Just my humble opinion.

Have gauges on stock 08. Lets you monitor and get a feel for trucks normal operation. If things seem to get funny in operation you should be able to see problems on gauges. It's a comfort level thing for me to see how things are going and know when a regen is happening.

I have the pillar post with 3 gauges. If I had it all to do over I would get the one that set on the dash. WHY It is a lot easer to see at night and you do not need to take your eyes off the road. You can get it at==== GENO'S====== Good Luck

I have been looking at the new Edge Insight CTS that is set to come out the 2nd week of June, and have been pretty impressed. I am going to keep researching but that seems to be a pretty good investment.

Stock or not, you have a possibility of cooking your transmission on x-hard and long pulls. I am not sure at what temp the factory idiot light comes on for a hot transmission. A transmission guage would not be a bad idea.

The transmission light comes on over 280*, the engine fan comes on around 250*. The transmission and EGT gauges I would consider the most important I have the dash pod with Boost, EGT, Tanny gauges.

I have a Quadzilla Scout and really like all that it can tell me about what is going on and also be able to check and clear codes.

I am going to install a boost and exhaust backpressure gauge since I'm running a boost fooler and want to see how much I'm really getting and the other is just simply because I can't see what's going on otherwise :-laf
