Hey guys:

The Banks gauges are finally in. The thermocouple for the pyrometer is pre-turbo. Just got them finished today, just need to hook up lights. I can't get the pyro over 900* and boost seems to be at about 10 p. s. i. The truck is stock other than the things mentioned in my signature. Are these numbers correct? Seem somewhat low, maybe that's because the Cummins is stock:D Thanks for the help.

John,

I can get 14 pounds of boost when towing and can get up to 1150*F pre turbo EGT. Have you checked all of your intercooler conections? Also, what type of load have you been able to put your truck under? Maybe you just need a bigger load. Hope this helps.

It will be higher when you tow. What size is your exhaust housing? That could explain the low boost. The trucks aren't meant to be over-fueled from the factory. Just so the unknowing person could tow and not melt the pistons.

Well guys:

My truck has the 21 cm turbine housing. Today, I was coming up a hill empty, about 45 m. p. h in 4 th gear floored, about 900*on the pyro. I kept her floored and at the top got up to about 55 m. p. h in 4 th and could feel it start to finally make boost, gauge said 10 p. s. i. Keep in mind, the truck had no load at all on it besides the hill it was going up and me not downshifting.

Remember Jeremy, you have a 3. 5" mandrel bent exhaust and played with that screw a bit ;) My exhaust is 3" and not mandrel bent. It looks like the pump has already been off/rebuilt but I think it's bone stock. Only smokes on startup and very little when it bogs down, barely noticable.

Also, my pyro doesn't go all the way back to zero when I shut the truck off, does that matter? I'll just have to experiment a little and see what #'s I get before BOMBING :D

Thanks

J DeMaio, the pyro will not return to zero unless the truck is cold and the ambient temperature is zero or less.

Hi John,

I don't think that the smoke screw effects the full power setting, it just allows more fuel to be dumped in at a lower RPM. This helps bring the boost up faster. Before I made any smoke screw adjustments I still got the same boost and pyro readings. However, to get any boost I just about had to floor the truck. Then it would jump up to 5 lb of boost. What type of air filter do you have in your truck? According to Dan Fritz's web site, our trucks should produce a maximum of 12 lb of boost at the manifold under a full load. But I have also seen the range of 12-19 lb of boost listed for the old stock 12 valves. Looks like a new set of injectors and a 16 cm housing are in the future for you :)

Well Jeremy:

I have a stock K&N replacement. As for upgrades, I think I might call Piers about Christmas time and get one of his finest turbo's, maybe an HX 35 with a 14 cm non-wastegated housing that he has modified;) She ought to make a little boost then, for now It's just going to remain stock.

What are in your plans for future mods?

Talk to you later

John
