What to look for in a used DC

Hi everybody:

I have a 2004. 5 Dodge Ram Truck and I want to install some gauges in it. I know absolutely nothing about this so I woul appreciate some information and help. The gauges I would like to install are Boost, Egt and Automatic fluid temperature gauge. I don't know how they would be installed, nor the proper location on the transmisssion and exaust manifold nor which gauges are the best to give me an accurate reading of what the real readings are. Can anyone give me some advise concerning all of this. Thank you.

I think that all brand name guages are probably equal in performance. Therefore I think that it would be more of a matter of which is the most eye appealing to you. JMO.

Also, I took my rig in to the dealer to have the hole drilled into the manifold. That way, if something were to go through the turbo, they would have to fix it on their dime. A search on the subject will show you a good location for the probe.

As far as the transmission, I have a manual, so I would be of no help there either.

Good luck.

There was a shoot out done on gauges and most are very comparable, they all do the job intended. Just a matter of personal likes and dislikes. Go to the link below for pyro install, good info. On transmission temp many have gone the route of installing a fluid line from the 94-95 year trucks to get a port for install of the temp probe. Do a search for transmission temp install and you will get a lot of good info on part#, install, etc. The most valuable function of this site is the search function. Use it to get a great deal of info. .

I have ISSPRO's in my truck, very nice gauges, look factory. I installed them in the center cubby hole in the dash, everyone thinks they came from the factory when they see them.

I use Isspro's, but as others mention it pretty much comes down to what you think looks nice.

There is a TON of gauge install information over in the 3rd gen forums. Here are some threads to get you started:

Post-turbo pyro.

Isspro gauges and windshield mount.

Choosing gauges.

Gauge install Q&A.

Transmission temp gauge.

Transmission sending unit install.

I could go on and on and on. Searching for various gauge-related topics in the 3rd gen forums easily yields over 400 threads discussing it. You get the point.

There are 2 phases to gauge installation: plumbing and electrical. The key to a good installation is to study each aspect carefully and plan your method.

I encourage getting a painless auxillary fuseblock (or make your own, if you're crafty!). Makes future electrical projects much easier.
