I just purchased a low mileage 1993 one ton dually. It has the CTD and the auto trans in it. It is all stock and very well taken care of and I want to start doing some modifications to it. First step according to another post is to install additional gauges to monitor other things, EGT, boost, trans temp etc. etc, and I have looked at Geno's garage website for some parts and they appear to cater to the 94 and up models.

Can somebody recommend what gauges that I really need to install into the truck and where I can go to get them?

I'm sure if you call genos they have stuff for a first gen. You can contact these guys www.piersdiesel.com , they are first gen gurus.

You need boost, pyro(EGT) and transmission temp. A tachometer would also be a good investment at this time. I do not have one of those yet. If you are planning on heavy bombing, then a fuel pressure gauge is also another good gauge to have.

FYI I have boost and pyro gauges in a pillar mount from auto meter. I am displeased with thier location because they face way above my head, not the gauges fault, just the mounting pod. I'm 6'1" too. Unless your head rubs the headliner I suggest some dash mounted gauges. JMHO

Happy bombing.

Marty,

Check out my readers rigs/diesel - there's some good pics of an Autometer set up; one triple pod )modified 2nd gen pod) on the dash, a 2-gauge panel on the front of the dash, and the tach on the column. Just some ideas.

I use the Auto Meter mountings. I have the first gen three pod dash mount. The second gen steering column pod single mount and the A-Pillar two pod mount. All work just beautifully with the truck and the ISSPRO gauges. All mounts fit like a glove with no modifications required.

I was told that the ISSPRO tach will not fit the steering column mount.

I use the Westach gauges for boost/pyro & transmission temp, and an Auto Meter tach that runs off the alternator. I'll echo MMiller's comment about the angle of the A pillar mount -- and I'm 6'-2". Because our A pillars are so upright, it is hard to design a pillar mount that doesn't leave them tilted at the roof. But then I know some guys that have them and really like 'em . . .

I put my tach on the column(like Scott did) and the others I have in individual mounts on the dash.

It's hard to buy a bad gauge if you are looking at the major manufacturers -- it's pretty much a matter of personal preference.

Have fun!
