I personally had both and from the experience totally dislike them equally. After having re-engineered my 97's gauges, I settled on by far, the best looking, working, and best engineered gauges on the market, Isspro EVs.

I have the Auto Meter "Phantom" Gauges that match the 03' White gauges. Installed in the Pro-Pod. Ordered everything from Geno's garage. They now have the Pro-Pod pre-painted to match the trim in the 03'. The gauges are working great. See my "readers rig" pics for pictures of the gauges and where the sensors for the boost and EGT sensors are tapped. Geno's sent me a replacement bolt for top of engine that is hollow and replaces the factor bolt. Made installation of the boost sensor a snap. Just take out the factor bolt and install the hollow bolt with sensor. Geno's warns you (they sent good instructions with some wiring tips) not to over torque this bolt. The transmission sensor was mounted on the back of the transmission pan. Purchased a kit at my local auto supply that had a hollow bolt (Geno's will give you part name and number when you call) and so did not have to braise the sensor. I had assistance from a diesel mechanic. BTW, I decided to go "pre-turbo" for the EGT sensor. No problems at all. The mechanic greased the drill bit, went REAL SLOW and then started the engine before he broke through. Blew any remaining metal filings out the exhaust. He also used a mechanics magnet to get any remaining filings. The turbo does not spool up until it reaches 1500rpms, so that was not a concern. The gauges appear to be very accurate. Best of luck with your gauges.

I've only used Autometer in my trucks and I've never had a problem except for a liquid filled gauge that leaked. Autometer replaced it. I'll use Autometer Phantoms in my 04 when I get it.

I'm sure you'll hear complaints about every brand out there. I've had them all too. They all have some quirk, but to me the Autometer's have withstood the time test, and kept consistent over the longer duration. Their pyro reacts quick, something others don't do as well, I feel.

Personal taste is the best judge of which gauge to use. Again, you'll get stories from every brand.

Not to say any brand is not good, but I will stand by my AutoMeter's because:

1. they were gotten used from a member here (tks agn E) and installed in the y2k

2. when I got them, the probe was bad, AutoMeter replaced the whole unit with a new in box set and upgraded the probe = NC

3. when installing them agn into the 03, needed bungs & new mounts for the probes, AutoMeter stepped up and provided them again @ NC (I tried to pay but they wont have it)

Their service to me has been great (and I do know of some others that were not as pleased) and I will stand by their product since they certainly are.

just another 0. 015$ opinion and we know what that is worth Oo.
