My 94 3500 Dually has a GCVWR of 14,000 pounds according to the owners manual. I thought 14k was pretty sad for a dually. With the truck weighing in at 6,500 pounds, that only leaves me 7,500 pounds of trailer. Something I have always wondered, is how does DCX determine GCVWR's? How high can you get with a Dodge truck? If my dually is only rated to 14k, what is a 2500's GCVWR? Any thought?

over the years gcvwr have been increasing. that said my 2000 2500 has a gcvwr of 16000 lbs. what gets me is how my brothers 03 chevy 1500 has the same gcvwr as my 2500 Ram

PSchwering,

DC and everyone else that I know of do their math for weight ratings on how they set up the drive train and suspension. That is what size springs, axles, wheels, tires, brakes, which engine, transmission, diff. gear ratios, and maybe some other things that we don't think about. With each year that goes by, they make things a little better and the ratings go up. Not sure about a 94 truck, but for 99 the ratings for your truck are 10,500 GVWR, 16,000 GCWR, and 10,000 GTW, and a 2500 is 8,800 GVWR, 16,000 GCVR, and 10,200 GTW. It looks like because we have 2 extra tires and wheels we loose 200 lbs of load weight. How high can we go? Well that all depends on how much money you have to modifiy your truck and replacing the parts that break from being over loaded. But it sure is fun trying to find out how far we can go with our toys.

Have fun Chris
