Trying to determine the GCWR for my Dodge (see signature) and my TT. Owner's manual refernces me to www.dodge.com/towing but I can't seem to find that info there. Any ideas?
Klenger, I think your link saved the day (maybe). Based on my truck, QC, 6spd, 4x4 and 3. 73 gears the GCWR shows 9072 with 20,000 in parentheses. Not sure what those numbers mean! Surely that isn't the GCWR, is it?
Overall capacity of your truck is 20k. That is park your truck fully loaded hooked up to your TT with it fully loaded according to DODGE total should not exceed 20k.
I will say this about my new Dodge and it is from personal experience. I have driven 6 different new Ford & Dodge trucks since the early 70s. This 2004. 5 2500 being rated what it is I think is under rated for carrying caps. I gross 10,100# on my truck when I am pulling my 5er and the way it handles loaded and unloaded I think it would be OK to rate the truck at 11,000# easy. It has the same axle and under carriage as a doolie 3500. Other than being a SRW and the dangers of a blowout on the rear I would not have any problem with loading mine to that load. With my 5er this truck handles the braking and pulling perfect. I have seen more serious accidents with front blowouts than I ever have with rear problems.
Cumminz, the last time I weighed b/4 a vacation my gross combined was 17k and I expect it will be that, or a little more, this time... ... . I'm carrying 65psi in the front and 70 psi in the rear. I may bump up the front to 70... ... ... . Larv
Cumminz, not to change the topic of this thread but I agree with you that the front tire blowing would probably be worse than the rear. I lost a rear tire a few years back with a Lance camper loaded on my 2500. I was able to pull over and change the tire with no loss of control. Now if it had been a front I think it might have been a whole different story.
