There isn't a forum section yet for the Gen 3 EcoDiesel so I suppose I'll keep posting things here.
Green Diesel Engineering has launched their tuning for the Gen 3 engine/trans combo now. This currently consists of a bench flash of the PCM and a handheld device flash of the transmission.
I've been running it in my 2021 Jeep Gladiator since late last week. The increase in usable horsepower and torque is very noticeable. Throttle response is crisp and faster. The transmission will now hold gear when I dip into the pedal like it should, rather than downshifting at the drop of a hat. I have a winch bumper, 12k winch, lift, 35" mud tires, etc. so not conducive to fuel economy at all, but I'm seeing 5-10% better MPG and I've done some 0-60 runs in the 6.8 to 7.0 second range.
Probably most importantly, they're using the low side EGR 99% of the time, which means a drastic reduction in soot re-entering the engine. This should keep the internals, MAP sensor, engine oil, etc much cleaner over time which hopefully will also extend engine life. Despite this, the tune is EPA legal in 49 states. It's as close as you can get to a delete without being deleted.
My only complaint is the transmission behavior below 15 MPH, particularly on a cold start. Pulling out of the neighborhood in the morning, or in my case down a 1/2 mile of gravel before I see pavement, the trans. stays in 1st gear to 3,000 RPM and then holds 2nd gear as long as possible. Also feels like it's locked the torque converter. They did this to warm things up faster, and mainly for emissions. But it's very annoying and feels very different than stock. They told me they'll work on smoothing that out a bit in later revisions.
Above 15 MPH the trans is perfect with firmer but still nice shifts, and better gear holding. The engine is up 45 horse and 80 lb/ft of torque through the entire RPM range. It's very nice. Their Ram used for validation made 510ish lb/ft of torque at the wheels and 300 horsepower. We're talking 5.9 Cummins numbers from 20 years ago.
