Gear Selecter

I have an auto transmission thats why I didn't call it a shifter. Yesterday my gear selecter went 'limp'. As in there is no resistence when I move the lever to any gear. This very thing happened to my dads '89 a few years ago. But I forget what the problem was and what it took to fix it. Has this happened to any body else. Thanks.

Limp shifter

The same thing happened to my 1993 W350. When changing the fluid and filter I found the detent ball and spring in the trans pan.

I stopped at the trans shop and that is the same thing he said. He said he hardly ever sees this happen. I'm going to let him fix it, since I don't know too much about fixing a transmission. Thanks
