What's the avg. cost on a gear swap (parts + labor hrs. )? I want to go to 4. 10's when I get my 36" tires. I'll be adding the Mag pan in the rear at the same time.
Figure about $1100 for gears and labor. That's with a R&P and possibly a bearing kit and definitely a shim kit. Depending on your mileage, you may need more than just the R&P.
$1024 to change out the 4. 10's for 3. 54's in a 92 4x4 and this included bearings if needed and a 24,000 mile check up. The rear had a the limited slip if that makes any difference.
You can go the route I did. US Gear overdrive. I'm cheap, found a deal, did all the labor myself and still spent over $2300. My wallet still smarts. I'm kicking myself now for not doing the gears instead. With the enhanced torque/powerband of this fine engine, I don't need the split gears even with a heavy load. I drive around in direct and only use double over for the open road.
Oh well, it gives me something else to play with and another cool red button on the shifter to make people ask questions. I'm sure I'll get used to two buttons but for now I keep trying to shift the exhaust brake and slow down by shifting the 2sp into overdrive. Dohhh!
I'm hearin' ya Fred. The only state in the union that can fly its flag the same height as old glory
Glad to hear I won't need the splitter. It was on my list, (WAY down the list, but on it none the less). So, the gear swap is first. 4. 10's with 36's should get me just about back to the stock 3. 55's which is "perfect" for me.
