Is this for real??? (Ford question)

hows this for warrenty work

My boss just picked up a Gehl 4610 with two buckets. It wasnt running at the time and we've since got it running but now the (left) drivers side is dead it rolls but has no power. the other side works great (right). To load the skid steer on the trailer we turned the valve under the seat to free wheel both sides. With no directions as to which way it is supposed to turn could it just not be turned the right way and its blocking the driver side hyd. s?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ian

Ian, Sounds like it is either a broken chain or sprocket inside the drives. The seller probably disabled the engine so you wouldn't notice the drive system problems. I have never personally had a 4610 apart that I can remember but on most skid steers you have to remove both wheels on the side not working and then take off an access cover for inspection or possibly unbolt the axle stubs from the frame. Some are relatively cheap and easy to repair while others can be just the opposite. Hope this helps, Chris

Thanks Chris!!

wouldnt you hear the gears tring to turn or something banging around?

the seller is a farmer up the road from my cousin/boss and lets just say hes not the best with a wrench or to diagnose a mechanical problem (same as my spelling :-laf ) he said that the steer was running and bucked the last time he used it yet couldnt get it running (1 yr ago) then he said that he had the darn thing running last week... ... well a few hours of tring to figure out how the darn perkins works and 2 cans of either later its running. good deal though 2 buckets, ok shape for 1000. 00

Ian, I have had the drive gears break teeth off before on me and only heard it go pop the first time I tried to move it but if you dont hear anything then it could just be a broken chain drive. First I would double check the linkage on the hydraulic control under the seat and make sure it is moving before you tear into the drives.

You guys got a sweet deal at $1000 because the 2 buckets alone would net that much at auction. Good luck and hope this helps, Chris
