2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission gen light on

on the way to work this morning the gen light came on the volt meter showed just over 14 and slowly dropped for about 5 miles when the volts got down to the bottom of the normal range it popped back up to 14 and started this cycle over all the time the gen light was on. has anyone seen this before? 97 2500 4x4 auto all stock 140,000 mi.

Never seen that happen, but could be the regulator on the alternator. I'd get it in and get it checked. If it has an external regulator, you may want to have it tested and possibly replaced. Sometimes the regulator will fail and then start doing very strange things...

I have a 97 and the regulator function is in the PCM. I just went thru a problem with my crank position sensor being bad and not having Tach, speedometer, MIL light, AC not working and alternator not charging. Here is my thread:

I bought a PCM from dealer and then found it was the CPS. I still have mine but its for a 5spd manual.
