Quick question to those who left a gen2 24v for the new 600?

Would you do it again or would you wait a bit longer?

I have a 99 that is starting to feel the pain of too many dirt roads. The engine is strong but the front end is ready for it's second rebuild, the transfer case is starting to pop out of 4x4 and third on the transmission seems to be loosing syncro... . lets not forget the torn drivers seat too!

Why do I even ask the question with these problems? simple, I get somewhere around 22mpg and the rig is paid for... .

Then again, that red 3500srw on the lot with the clean seats, scratch free paint, perfect glass ,WARRANTY and $10K off sticker sure looks pretty all alone and in need of a lead foot... .....

Think a bath and cheap wax job will fool the dealer into a big trade?

(me neither... )

hmmmm :-laf

David... If I didn't need a dually for my 5th wheel I'd still own my 2001. Don't be in too much of a hurry... There are many dealers, across the US that can sell you a new CTD for 10K under MSRP... ;)

You won't be disappointed with a 3rd Gen! Just take the one you are going to buy and make sure it doesn't have the vibration at 70mph that a lot of guys complain about. I have had NO problems with mine.

I had a '01 235/460 auto with 3. 54s which was loud enough to kill brain cells. Got the '03 305/555 6spd with 3. 73 and quieter than my sons DMAX and better fuel milage. Towin' my 11200 lb 5er is a peice of cake now... ... ... JIM

We now have 15,000 miles on our dually 3500, LB, Cummins, 2005, most of the miles pulling a 13,000lb 5iver and as of now could not be happier, they have done a very good job with this truck, and put a lot more power into it than I have needed so far. You can wait, but there really is no need to. Only issue so far is some wear on the rubber molding around the front doors, which is being replaced as per a TSB from Dodge.

Make sure you take your 2nd gen seats with you. I do not know how you guy's can stay in those 3rd gen seats. When I sat in one it felt more like a bleacher than a seat.

Dave

The only reason not to by the new payment and the 22 mpg. I wouldn't expect those again. And I like the new power seats on mine. Feel quite comfortable.

I went from a very strong 99 to an 05 and have no regrets at all. When you are making your decsion remember you got a #53 under the hood right now.

Great inputs folks, keep it coming. I don't get home so I can talk to the dealer for another week. :D

Secondary questions:

A) for a cash deal, where should I buy for the best deal? I Don't mind a drive if it is worth it...

B) any suggestions on where to sell a slightly modified 99 CTD if I do the cash route?

Thx. . I do love the TDR!!

ps: I did get a sweet smell of maybe glycol while driving to Toronto the other day. . that 53block thing might just be the incentive to loose the 99..... :)

If your 99 is in good shape, you should have no problems selling it on your own. You will "ALWAYS" loose money if you trade it to the dealer.

You will usually get a better deal when you order one. If you buy it off the lot, they want more money, for their "real and imagined" expenses. They also like to stick it to the "impulsive buyer. " I bought my 2005 for 10. 6% under invoice plus tax and license.
