Generator discussions pop up every once and while here, I saw this one and wondered if anyone else has seen it. The Onan Juice Box is designed to put out 4k watts, self contained and is designed to be hitch mounted on the rear of the rv. I looked online and it says it's recommended for rv's over 26' or over 6k lbs GVW. Also features a remote control key fob. Darn thing even has legs with wheels so you can move it from rv to rv and if needed to your house for emergency power plus a hard plastic cover to keep the weather off of it.

Why mess around, I'd go for the Diesel Genset, Place it in the bed of the truck and have plenty portable power at home and in the boonies

I've been around many diesel generators, and don't think they are the way to go for RVs. I may be the only one on this site who would admit to such a thing, but smelling diesel exhaust for hours on end is not a pleasant experience. Gas or LP is the best fuel for RV gensets.

Excellent point! ;)

My guess is that the Juice Box is fairly noisy, anyone here had experience with it?? Looks like a pain with the fuel system as well. May as well get a unit built in with tank or propane powered.

I see Gary beat me to it, Yes very good point. My wife would have killed me as she hates diesel exhaust.

I was at my local Cummins dealer getting some parts and they had the juice box on display , I do not know if there is a relationshinship between the two co. s or that this Cummins dealer being a motorcoach service center is why .

How much does this beast cost. I paid less than $300 for a 3500 watt china built generator that run my roof air fine. Does it cost more than $300. ?

Yes, Cummins and Onan are related...

I've been that route before, couldn't stand the noise either. If you're staying in a campground and run one of them loud gen sets, you are being rude to the other folks staying there.

My 5th wheel has a factory installed 3. 6KW Onan propane fueled generator. For my previous TT I used a Honda 2KW unit. Wouldn't run the AC but is real quiet and very portable. No comparison to the Onan but a similar level of quality.

Of interest the Onan is certified for use in National Parks based on it meeting the noise limits imposed by the NP service.

Onan is a subsidiary of Cummins and its quality reflects that of Cummins diesel engines

I am very happy with my pair of eu-2000s. Only thing missing is electric start

Yes, when I consider all the alternatives a pair of eu-2000s seem to be the best option light weight, only need to run one for lights and heater, only down side is I have to carry gasoline to run them,

But you don't have to carry much gas. Last month I ran my pair all weekend on 7. 5 gal.

Fireman, Thanks for telling me the amount, Boy 7. 5 gals for a weekend this seem like quite a bit. How many hrs did you run them each day and is this just Sat and Sun or Fri evening too?

What were you powering with them I am assuming A/C and lights????

Based on the existing data I would have to have 22. 5 gallons for a 6 days boondocking

Fri, Sat, Sun. I ran them from 5 in the morning till 11 at night. About 35 hrs total and that was running 2 of them. If I didn't need air I could have used one and would have burned only about 2. 5 gal. I thought it was pretty effecient.

All things considered, it's efficient enough, at least compared to the significantly higher cost alternatives, and realizing that for most weekend RVers such heavy generator use is only an occasional thing. Folks who REGULARLY need such high current capabilities would likely benefit from some of the more upscale units - but the cost of 7-10 gallons of gas several time a season won't make much of a dent in the price of a 3-4 KW genset... ;)
