How is the install and truely how loud is the ME vs. say MBRP? The replies are all over the board from, loud so I changed it back, to it is`nt to bad.

Does short vs. long bed play a part?

Why would Carson Dodge say that a ME pipe is ok, but not free muffler such as MBRP?

They gave me the green light on my Cool Blue Hose, PSM intake and I would buy both again, oh and the Amsoil drop in filter, cooler EGT`s

I recall some one saying something about a Tom-cat (?) it replaced the tail pipe from the cat along with the muffler, not the whole exhaust system. I tow a 5th at 12k lbs with my `05 48R. No box or chip, stock, I don`t want to wake up every one up in the morning!!!

The biggy... is a TAG worth the money.

Thank you for all comments!

i did the ME pipe. i love the sound of straight piped 1st and 2nd gens. in my opinion, my third gen sounded nothing like that. in fact, i thought it sounded like crap. i ran it for about two weeks hoping to have it grow on me but it just made me hesitate to step on the go pedal to keep the noise down. it was LOUD. idle was kinda cool, but every thing else sounded like a st piped 6 cyl gasser to me.

also, i felt it robbed me of low end tq and mpg. this was futher evident when i put the stock muff back on and i seemed to regain a bunch of low end tq.

did not try the TAG. i'm not convinced by any of the arguements on it's behalf and every post that provides actual data (hp & tq #s) reflect a loss (very small loss) of power as far as i have seen. that is searchable here on tdr.

i must stress that i've not used the TAG. it may be the cat's meow for all i know. so my comments are bordering on rule infrigement here. but they are based on tdr posts.

i certainly don't think the TAG would hurt anything... . that's a plus.

good luck, jeff

I love the sound of my 05 with no muffler (kept the cat). It's loud enough to sound "right", but not bad in the cab when I'm towing.

To Tag or not to Tag

I have a Tag and can't tell any difference in power or mileage after, oh, about 50,000 miles. I think change is more imagined than anything else. Kinda like putting an after-market exhaust on a stock truck. Different sound but not much else. Save your money.

I got the ME pipe, sitting here waiting for this weekend. I am not sure if I will like/dislike the sound quality changes but I do know that it does reduce EGT's and that's my primary reasoning for installing it.

I have the TAG, also the Cool Blue Hose and the Cool Power airbox mod and am using the AMSOIL drop in. Since the stock intake had the air diverter I felt the TAG was a necessary ingredient to the intake changes. There are always many opinions good, bad, ugly and so forth, but the one constant in my mind was the stock air diverter and it's purpose. When you compare what it did in directing air into the turbo vrs leaving it out, it only made sense to me that the TAG offered a very balance directed air supply, distributing the aire more evenly into the blades - more balanced across them. That consideration also then goes to more even pressure on bearings. Again, just my opinion and reasoning why I decided to install it. I worked many years in the aerospace industry and the TAG principle is used with jet engine intakes, the premise there was to evenly distribute air pressure across the intake blades. They went to adding the air diverters when blades were cracking due to unbalanced air across the blade surfaces and causing engine failures, solved the problems for them so I could actually see the purpose and it's advantages, even if we have a turbine that is considerable smaller than a jet engine it still does the same thing producing the same overall effect. As far as fuel economy, I did see a little gain from the whole combination. I figured it would pay for itself in about 2 years of driving.

Yah, I was just reporting on 50,000 miles in my truck. The TDR reported some objective tests of their own a few months ago and the results published. The bottom line for me has always been what an add-on will do for me in my truck. Since my truck is basically stock, the answer has been nothing. Now if I want to jeopardize my extended warranty there are lots of ways to bomb an engine. But a different exhaust or TAG isn't likely to help much unless the other mods go on first.

I did the ME on mine and I love the sound. I guess it is personnel taste. It is definately loud under load. I tow a 35' TT it gets loud when pulling a hill. Have really noticed any difference in power with it. Truck is pretty much stock.

I just did exactly what you are talking about doing. The loudness? Starting up in the morning and driving empty. You certainly will NOT wake up your neighbors in the morning. I noticed it to sound like a big rig when pulling. If you pull your trailer away in the morning you probably WILL wake your neighbors. While cruising at highway speeds, windows all closed you will hear a hum, not bad at all. I don't know how loud it is outside but when pulling away from filling stations, windows down it is like a semi pulling away. As for the TAG and cool blue? I can't give you an answer on that mpg-wise but before the change, I could <easily> get my egt's >12-1300*. Now it has not gone > than 1200*. Pulling long hills it stays cool. Worth it? Probably. If for no other reason the egt's are lower.

Say NO to TAG

a fellow TDR member HAD one go sideways in his turbo, didnt hurt the turbo but still a waste of money!

Ive got the Muffler delete on my 06 from Genos garage and it sounds good! nothing like my 01 with 5" out the corner but still louder than stock and not loud enough to be annoying! a turbocharged truck does not need backpressure so dont fall into that crap! pull the huge 55 gallon drum of a muffler off, heck that less weight will save you in mpg somewhat... I have no facts on it but just my thinking

I'm not sure if you're talking about me or not, but that's what my first one did. The honeycomb separated from the housing and turned sideways and wore on the end of the impellar shaft. For whatever reason I gave them a second chance. The second one I found the crack before it had a chance to fall apart.

When I talked to them (TAG maker/seller) they said mine was the 3rd out of thousands with a problem. One was damaged in shipping, one cracked, and them there was mine that fell apart. Seems like there's more coming out with problems.

Now so that I am not totally trashing the TAGs, I believe the original TAG would be OK, but not the TAG III with the crappy housing. Other than the housing I liked mine.
