Geno`s MUFFLER ELIMINATION KIT

I just rec`d my MEP from Geno`s. To those that have installed this kit, please, please, give me some hints on how you installed it. Such as do I need to remove pipe from the cat ect...

I'm assuming that there are the same difficulties on 2nd and 3rd gen pickups. I put one on my 99... the hardest part was getting the muffler off of the header and tail pipe. From the factory, the clamps on mine were cinched down hard enough to crimp both the muffler and header/tail pipe. I ended up splitting the muffler materiel on opposite sides of the pipe and "splaying" the halves to get the header/tail pipe out of it. I used a dremel because my cutting torch was not at my house at the time.



I also ran into problems because on the factory header pipe, there was a little piece welded on that slid into a slot on the muffler to keep it aligned or from rotating without having to spot weld it. I ended up removing that little nub so the elimination pipe would slip far enough on the header pipe for proper overall length of the assembly.



Other than that it was pretty easy.

I removed my muffler by removing the factory clamps and heating the joints with a torch. Disconecting the tailpipe first, (temp. wire it out of the way) then remove the muffler.

Knowing what I know now, I think I would have first ground off the small round welded on knobs (two) that slides into the slots on the top side of the pipes. I think these have to be removed anyway, and it makes removal easier if you can wiggle pipes up, down, and rotate.

You can feel these knobs with your fingers, but to see them you'll have to use a mirror.

Installing the MEP is pretty straight forward, just slip everything together, eye-ball all of the "angles of the dangles" and tighten the clamps.

I love the new sound, and several of my friends and neighbors have said it makes the truck sounds "very powerful".

It worked for me.

I used my grinder to cut a few slots on both ends, the just peeled them back away from the other pipe enough to break free of the clamp crimps. The ME pipe is a cinch after that. I also used band clamps instead of the u-bolt type. It took about 1/2 hour to r&r.
