Hey there! I was going to change my fuel filter this afternoon and put the Genos Metal cap back on ( I had taken it off on the last change and put the stock one back on). . I looked just inside the inner rim of the cap and noticed one spot was scortched!! I didn't notice it when I took the cap off. I have been storing it to put back on at the next fuel filter change. Can anyone shed some light on this? I tried to get a picture but they didn't turn out good enough to post here. . Thanks!!

Still hard to see. I think the glare from camera flash is masking the area.

Try it under normal light with no flash and re-post. This post does lead to a question I have had. I was considering the billet cover, but the main reason to buy it is to get an easy location to put a pressure sender. Please correct me if I am wrong, but it appears that the port location on top of the cover is exposed to the upstream side. It will tell you if your pump has failed but it won't indicate that your filter is dirty, except possibly as an inverse indicator (higher pressure). A more logical location for a sender is off one of the banjo fittings downstream of the filter.

Yes, I believe everyone can see the picture and atleast get the idea! LOLOL :) It is the Billet replacement cap you can buy from Genos... It could have been there all along but I am not sure. . Just noticed it today... . Does the Fuel heat up enough to scortch metal ??????? I know it's high pressure, but not sure it's high heat...

Is it a one piece cap? It looks like either machining or a weld type mark

This billet cap is all one piece so it couldnt be from welding and i couldnt see a lathe putting a burn mark in it like that. It makes you wonder what i could be from, try givin Genos a call and see if they ever came across somethin like this before. . Ill have to check mine next filter change.

DeezelDood, you make a good point i was wounderin the same thing, I have a Autogage direct mount on top of the canister and my fuel pressure guage thats on my A piller is getting its pressure after the MK-2 filter. . They both read about the same pressure but the reason i did that was for that reason i wanted to monitor each filter. . Can anyone explain if we are montoring pressure from the pump or is the pressure after the filter?? I was thinking about just moving the direct mount guage down on the fuel line between both filters. . Shawn

Doesn't really look like a burn, due to no fire/ash residue. Possibility the aluminum is a little porous and is picking up some stain from the sulphur content in the fuel re-acting with the aluminum. If the cap was left upside down when you put it on the shelf, possibily the fuel residue pooled in cap, or it could be a moisture stain, similar to what aluminum cook ware gets after time.

Genos Garage Response.....

Hey there guys following this thread. I just got off the phone with Genos garage and they said that the Burn Mark is NORMAL. It was probably there the first time I used it and I just never noticed... .

CAUSE:

It is a "Flash" mark from the process they use to "Chrome" the cap. He says it is really common on some of the caps... So next time I change my filter I will put it back on! Oo.

Fuel flows from outside to inside on the stock fuel canster. So you are reading filtered fuel pressure on the Geno's billet cap. ;)

um. . no. . true fuel flow in the filter housing if from the outside in, but the cap is on the outside of the filter. the only way to get filtered fuel pressure is to grab a reading off the bottom of the housing or off the inlet pipe to the cp3

[space between filter and cap is pressurized un filtered fuel]
