I installed the Metal fuel filter cap from Genos this afternoon and it fit great with the new fuel filters from Fleetguard ( 7 micron). I like how you can actually feel when it's tight and not have to worry about cross threading... . Anyone else using it? I did notice that the little plug I had to tighten down didn't screw all the way flush with the cap. . sticks up just a little. Has this been everyone else's experience?? Thanks!Oo.

I rodeo and live in the DUST... LOLOLOLOL But I also take real good care of the truck. . Just degreased it last night as amatter of fact! Oo.

Hey man I got one and I couldn't get the filter pushed in it tight enough and the thing wouldn't screw down into the canister, any tips:confused:

The filter needs to be pushed into the bottom of the canister, not into the filter cap. put the filter in first and the carefully screw the cap on.

FYI. just in case anybody didn't know, always drain the fuel out of the filter canister before changing filter so you don't get contaminated fuel into the injector pump.

you'll find that if you use the port on the cap for feeding a fuel pressure gauge. you'll have problems.

I agree, it's a very nice cap but, the filter fits into the lid so tight, fuel can't get by to feed the gauge.

Several people have had this problem including myself. The fix is... . you need to notch the top of the filter in several place around the filter edge that goes into the cap. That way the fuel can get by it. You can do that or, grind out some of the metal in the cap to allow fuel to pass.

Apparently, the newer filters Geno's sells are bigger than the previous ones which is the reason for this problem.

I would also suggest that if you're not going to use that port... . replace the plastic screw that's in there with a metal or aluminum one.

OK, just an FYI.....

#1... The plug that comes with the filter cap is NOT plastic. It is METAL already. . So your good to go there.

#2 FOr instillation, my Fleetguard filter ( 7 micron) from genos fit snugly inside the cap but it pushed right in. I pushed it in and took it out several times before Instillaing it on the truck. When I went to screw it onto the Canister, just make sure you are pushing the cap down streight onto the canister. I got up over it as best as I could and used one hand to start it. Then racheted it SLOWLY until I felt it stop and poof. . it worked perfectly. As you can see, I do not use oressure guage!! My only question is that when I tightened the plug down it was tight and stuck up about 1/8" ... I assume this is normal. .

My 1/8th NPT was metal also and you do have to notch the new 7 micron Stratopore replacements or the fuel will not get to the under side of the lid and to that port.

roperteacher,

Based on your above post & pics I just order two of these fuel filter caps today (got two trucks). Yesterday I was changing my filter and could see that the plastic "nut" on top of the stock cap only had a few more uses before it rounds off and then I will have hell to pay trying to get it off. Thought I 'd head that off at the pass right quick!

I agree, glad you like them! I got it mainly for the fact that it seems more durable than the stock cap and should last the entire life of the truck. I also like the way you can FEEL if your tight or not. ANd most of all, it LOOKS cool!! And Matches the chrome on my white 3500... LOLOL :D

Is it me or does it seem poorly designed that you need to cut the filter top to get the NPT gauge plug at the top to work---and pass along the reading?

I'm on the fence here... help me understand... . thank you.

Don't blame Geno's or the creator of the cap. Fleetguard changed the design of the cap, it is no longer rolled at the top it's flat. I have had to file the edge at the top to get it into the cap. Other than that I love mine.

it was designed with the old style of filter. . the new "E" filters are different, but fit in the same housing. i don't know if anyone here has a picture of the old vs new filter styles, but on the old style filter, you didn't need to trim the filter [don't cut the top off, just trim a slow into the top lid, but not far enough to make contact with the filter element. if you cut the top off the filter, that filter is now no longer a filter. . it is a piece of scrap]
