Anyone with a 2nd generation truck using Geno's White Night backup light gizmos - the ones that attach over/around the factory tow receiver? If so, any comments, pro or con? I did a search and came up with a few comments - about 50/50 approval rating as of last threads - any more comments?



I'm especially interested in hearing how they wire in or attach to existing wiring - they provide a wiring kit, and also sell a plug-and-play adapter - how good are those? :confused:



I had ordered some Sport-type tail lights for my truck off of Ebay, but the ones I received apparently are for a 3rd generation truck :rolleyes: , and depending on what I end up with for a refund/replacement, I may be looking for something like what Geno's has for better backup lights...

I don't have a 2nd gen/have a 3rd gen.



I've ordered the lights from genos last week (Thursday), I should be getting them this week.



I'll posted an update as far as the lighting goes. I also order the plug and play adapter.

Mom and Sis have the White Night lights mounted on their 2G trucks. I put one of them on and they work dang great. Neither of them use their receiver hitch, so I don't know what sort of hassles might crop up there.



Of course I'd run a "tailgater switch" into the cockpit for remote activation. ;)



I don't remember much about the installation process except that the wires were plenty long. Not much of an answer, but then I've been useless before. :eek:
 
On my 3rd gen, I just shoved each wire, according to it's function, through the rubber plug on the back of the 7pin. It slipped right in and made plenty good contact. The rubber plug is holding it quite well... . so far anyway.
 
Gary, "Tool Man Tim Taylor" has them on his dually. I'm sure he'll be glad to give you some feedback on them.
 
why not just buy some inexpensive 55w lights for around 25 dollars and mount them to the bumper. then wire them into the backup lights with the relay kit they come with...



it doesnt make much sense to me to pay as much as they ask for something that gets in the way of placing the pin in for your receiver and placing the chains... .

I thought about doing that. But I decided on the easy factor. I spend too much time on my Jeep, that I went with the "now" factor and ordered the "White Nights".



If I find I have more time later on, I can put the "White Nights" on one of my other vehicles.



Oh, I forgot. Once in a while I get lazy. :)
 
I've had mine on for 6 mos, and they work great. Actualy a flash light would have been better than the stock backup lights. I left the receiver in , and locked in place to prevent theft of my light. :) "Ironbutt"
 
Hella 90601 work lamps have two H3 bulbs per lamp. A pair of these lamps will give you 220 watts to the rear. They may even melt snow. They are easy to attach to OEM holes in the bumper with a simple bracket.

I run mine from an 8 gauge fifty amp circuit that runs to the rear of my model year 2000 Ram. It's also possible to tap the tow package harness for a source of +12 volts. There is lots of dry room to mount a relay inside the bed sidewall sheet metal forward of the tail light housing. Tap the 18 gauge VT/BK wire at either OEM backup light socket to trigger the relay.

I am happy with mine... but I mounted them under the receiver. That accomplished two things. The pin is a pain to get in and out of the receiver, and I am always changing ball mounts for different trailers or putting the remove to tow Ford hitch plug. It also gets the light under the front of the 5er, so you can really see back under the trailer. Then I took the bulbs out of the stock back up lights so the aren't reflecting off the front of the trailer and blinding you defeating the purpose of having the added lights.

I have had the White Nights on for over a year now. I have everything needed to hook up a set of backup lights in the garage, but I also am lazy and impatient. The White Nights were a quick fix. I really did not expect them to live a very long life. I don't hook a lot of trailers, but I do back into every place that I park. Insert stinger has saved them a number of times. Simple install and they have worked flawlessly. Down side when mounted on the reciever is that they do require a longer insert(pin hole to start of bracing or downturn). I have 4 recievers and only one was the extended length. They do interfere with the safety chain holes some. A dremel or snap links eliminates that issues very quickly. I am happy with them and they have lasted much longer than I expected.
