Got a new trailer

Aero aids

I have seen a number of 5th wheel trailers with a bracket mounted to the rear bumper/frame that hold a small generator. I am thinking of building such a mounting on a 29' Cougar. The generator weighs 112# fueled. I plan to use a 3/8" alum plate and u bolt (1/2") it to the bumper and the frame, then reinforce from under the bumper to the end of the bracket with 3/4 thin wall.

Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. I now have the generator mounted in the truck bed.

Thanks

It's very do-able, I did a similar platform on a TT that I had prior. Just beware of the flex on the bumper. Some are built better than others, and I assume that you will be bolting the generator to the platform as well. I had two 1" steel tubes welded to the bumper, then slid the supports inside the 1" tubes. A hole drilled in both the steel tubes and the support tubes allowed for a padlock to secure the system, and yet made it removeable for service and storage. Don't forget some type of cover to protect the unit, and keep it not so obivious when your not around the camp ground. Sarge

I will take a picture of mine when I get home, but until them I can try to explain.

I welded a cross piece between the frame rail, and along with cross braces from it to the frame then welded a 2 " reciever extension to the cross piece and it is then welded to the bottom of the bumper for a little bit of additional support. Benifit of the 2" reciever hitch is that it can be used for other purposes also. ie bikes etc.

Pics in the readers rigs.
