"Buzz Reader Joseph M. received an interesting package the other day. The following is his report: " I got a very interesting piece of mail from our good friends at America's worst auto maker, GM. The large envelope said on the outside in large black letters " THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BETTER TIME TO GET OUT OF DODGE". I opened it only to find a brochure from GMC on the worst truck made in America. I have been a loyal Dodge fan for some years and this mailing really ****** me off for lack of a better phrase. With all the perceived problems in the media about DC, this mailing is pure mud slinging from the GM camp. "
GM is also running TV commercials bashing the Dodge Ram. Nick C. reports that "I was just watching TV and a GM commercial came on, saying so Dodge is different, but GM has 40 more horse power so why not trade different for better. " While it's a great example of kicking a competitor when their down, It's also an indicator of just how far Dodge Truck has come since the Ram was introduced in Model year 1994. Back then Dodge didn't even show up on the radar of dominant truck builders Ford and GM. The fact that both competitors actively compare their trucks to Dodge shows that the big truck has taken a serious chunk of the market.
It's also ironic that GM's almost new full-size truck has just finally surpassed the Ram in any arena (HP) seven years after the Ram hit the market. They've done such a thorough job of imitating the Ram's design that their truck is almost identical from the rear (especially the cab). There's plenty of precedent to this, their last truck (which showed up some time in the late 80's) incorporated many of the innovations pioneered almost twenty years earlier when Dodge introduced their last D series truck in 1971, most notably the curved doors that allowed for a wider cab.
The Ram is still the best looking truck on the road, and it continues to sell well even in its last year of production. It's definitely the most influential truck of the last decade. As far as GM goes . . . comparing their new truck to a 7-year-old vehicle is pretty pathetic. They might as well enjoy it while they can, Dodge is raising the bar again in September with the launch of the all new Ram. "
I guess GM can't sell trucks on the merits of the truck they "produce"
