Hey guys,

I've searched all over the forums and I wasn't able to find anyone with a similar situation. My AC compressor cycles on every 8 to 10 seconds. The AC cooling is fine - nice and cold. I hooked up a gauge to the low pressure line and it stays in the blue, so it doesn't need any refrigerant from what I can tell.

Other posters I found during my searches said that their AC only cycles every minute or so. That sounds like a dream to me. Is my short AC cycle normal, or is there a way to tweak it? It drives me nuts.

Thanks for your help!

You can short out the low pressure switch and see if that is the problem. In the round canister back by the PCM, there is a sensor and a wire harness. It is in the low pressure side line. Unhook the sensor and jump the two leads in the wireharness. This will bypass the lowpressure sensor. This should also cause the compressor to stay on. See if this fixes the problem.

No, the cycling is an indication of an undercharged system. This could be caused by either not enough freon in the system or a faulty low pressure switch. There is no proper way to tweak this, you can only fix the problem (at least to my knowledge).

rkressg is right - you can't tweak the system. Jumper the switch like he says.

If the suction line (the big AC line) gets frost on it with the pressure switch jumpered, then you need to charge the system up.

If it runs continuously (as it should with the pressure switch jumpered) but only develops condensate on the suction line, then the switch is bad.

3-5 minutes should tell.

Awesome.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I'll give it a try this weekend and will let you know what I find so that any future searchers with a similar problem out there will find what they need.
