I'm just curious about what some of you other guys use for oil and/or additives in your trannies. I'll be using something synthetic for sure since she get a bit chilly up here in Saskatchewan come winter.

Thanks in advance

The Getrag calls for 5W30 oil. I used 5W30 synthetic in mine before and after my rebuild. To keep it quiet I tried 5W50 synthetic then finally gave up and installed the NV4500HD which runs great. Hope this helps.

5-30W Synthetic. The Synthetic help it get past that little "hook" from 3rd to 4th gear. It's a little quieter also I noticed.

I used to use 5w-30 Mobil 1 in my Getrag before the NVG conversion. I changed it annually because I have trouble believeing that 'motor oil' is the best lube for a manual trans.

KEENO :)

My 1989 has had Valvoline 10W30 engine oil in it since new. I added magnets from Radio Shack to the drain plug after seeing sparkles in the oil. It still sounds pretty good and has 224,900 miles on it. About 100,000 of these had either a 7700 lb travel trailer, an eight foot slide in full height camper, or both aboard. It is a little noisier than when new, but not much. The engine oil works well. I never saw a reason to question the design engineers.
