Having just read another article on this gearbox,reminded me of
the time last year when i had trouble getting from 3rd to 4th. Had
the transmission removed & found spring for shifter broken. Called dealers & some shops listed in TDR. Got the same answer from
all, you can only buy the whole top of transmission to the tune of at
least $700 & at least a month backorder. So,out came the old
yellow pages. Found an industrial spring maker,after looking at it
he said it was flawed from the factory. Said could not believe a
German Co. would let this get by. Of course he could make a new
one even better than the original. The only drawback was it would
take a week & cost was to be about $275 due to setup. Since the
setup was paid,it only cost $5. 00 more to have 5 made. That was at 153,000mi. am now at 179,000 & no problems. Just have an
extra 4 springs I do not need . Anybody need one? 585-345 0204
