I know this isn't a ctd question. Hope someone has the answer?

Does anyone know if the 5sp getrag that they put in our CTD's is the same one that is used in the gas powered chevy's? A fellow at work has a chevy 1500 v6 w/5sp and keeps asking me

if the transmission is the same?

Told him "I don't know, but my fellow ctd owners might know". He had the dealer service it and now it's statring to make noise. I told him to take it back to the dealer and ask them. He's not too thrilled with the dealer to say the least!

I haven't heard it so I don't know what type of sound it's making.

Would also like to know if you could do the same thing to it that we do to ours, by running an extra qt. of 5w30 synthetic in it?

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I don't think they're the same bc my Chilton's for '88-'98 GM Full-size Trucks recommends Syncromesh transmission fluid for the Getrag 85mm. Post on another board's GM forum also confirms need for different fluid.

No they arn't the same. . the one in the GM stuff is aluminum and alot smaller. I beleive the one that is in the chevy trucks is a Getrag 250 and ours is a 360...
