Getrag damage from low oil level.

This is what the input shaft looked like after the transmission was run out of oil. I drained about a cup out of it. It also broke the main case in 6 directions from the input shaft bearing bore. When the bearing burned up and allowed clearance for the meshed gears to climb on top of each other, it spread the case apart to the point the gears were able to shear the teeth off. So, one good used case, new input shaft, good used counter shaft cluster gear set, front bearing retainer and bearing kit later, it is going back together

You really hit on an overlooked liability for any shop that gets near a gearbox, x-fer case or any diff. Record that you checked it and maybe figure out a marking, for been there checked it to serve the customer and not get served.

have a NV4500 that look's Just as Bad . 4th gear is gone . didn't have over a couple Oz's of Oil in it
