Howdy,

I'm not 100% sure I'm going to, but I want to because it'll cost alot more if it goes out. I would like to know the price range for rebuilding one myself, just the parts. Any tips on rebuilding and R&R would be nice. Thanks alot.

Does anyone have, or know where to get a manual for the Getrag? My service manual says you can't service it, what a bunch of crap. It only shows R&R.

Not sure of a rebuild kit cost- really depends on what all it needs. Sometimes a bearing or two is all that is wrong; others the whole thing is shot. On to the R&R...

It is really pretty straightforward. I would recommend a helper for the T-case; I had my (now ex-) fiancee "help" me take out the T-case. Lot more fun that way :D ;). THat bugger is as heavy as the transmission. For the transmission itself, I used a floorjack and one of those $3 ratchet straps to tie it on, and pulled it out, and put it back in when it came time to do so. Make sure you get the skidplate on right, it is about 3" off, and will bolt up either way. Nothing else out of the ordinary I can think of now. I was putting in a clutch, and left the transmission alone. Put in a new throw out bearing while you have it out and apart.

Might see if some that have upgraded still had a good transmission, and replaced/ upgraded as a preventive measure.

The '93 manual has the Getrag rebuild section. Pretty straight forward, but you'll need a press if you go all the way. Rebuild kit with synchros is $238ish from Standard Trans and Gear.

I had good luck pulling trans and tcase with a trans adapter I bought for my floor jack for @ $60. I bet dpuckett wishes I did a clutch at the time:p He's pickier than me, though;) I hope he noticed that WAS a new throwout bearing at least!:D

Could somebody copy the rebuild section out of their manual? It would help alot, wish mine had it in there.

Where did you guys get your throwout bearings at? Any certain one that works good for our trucks?

Thanks alot, Steve

i have parts for a getrag... (i'm getting ride of mine) you better send me a message about what you want... . one suggestion on taking it out make sure you take the lower portion of the shifter out before trying to remove the trans. can't tell you how to get out... i came home from work and my uncle had it laying on the floor. one more thing, pull the whole trans. apart before you go and buy parts... . i spent $1000 on parts and found i needed another $1000 part... .

I would seriously like to have a manual, I don't really want to buy a whole manual that cost that much just for the Getrag section. I'd pay somebody to copy theirs if they would(or scan them even?).

Thanks alot, Steve

Where are you guys buying your parts? This is off of www.standardtransmission.com

GETRAG

Input $145. 00

Cluster Gear $260. 00

M/Shaft 3RD $123. 00

M/Shaft 5TH $97. 20

C/Shaft 5TH $70. 50

Cluster Shaft $32. 63

Shift Screw $15. 00

Rebuild Kit

w/synchros $238. 75

At these prices you can replace everything but the case for less than $1000.

Their rebuilt Getrags are $1450.

I'm just passing this along. I've never bought or received anything from them, but they've been advertisers in TDR for a long time, and seem to be on the front line of the Getrag debate...

Thanks alot guys,

I think I got all the info on parts and stuff, all I need now is a manual. Reckon the place you call to get a factory service manual would have one on the Getrag by itself?

Thanks, Steve
