Getrag Shifting Trouble

Has anyone encountered a Getrag that is hard to shift, especially from 3rd to 4th gear? This problem started suddenly, trans does not make any noise. Clutch operates normally. If the 3rd to 4th shift attempt does not go smoothly first try the shifter is difficult to get into any gear. I am aware that the shifter itself has some small cracks around the rubber bushing where it presses on to the trans but I don't feel that is the problem. Any ideas? Thank you in advance!

Jet Tech, I have a cousin with a '94 2 wheel, that got almost impossible to shift into 5th or reverse, it was his synchronizers, I believe his was a GETRAG but am not sure... . Local shop charged 800 dollars for repair but not sure how much they actually replaced... .

Hi Jet Tech
My '93 2 by had trouble with 3 & 4 also but not quite the same as yours. Mine started grinding first going into third then fourth. I had the transmission rebiult at a cost of $1600. 00 but was still not happy. My final solution was to switch to the NV4500 which is running just fine after about 10,000 miles. Dodge switched to the NV4500 in '94 and while it has some problems there are solutions to them. It is an easier trans. to shift as well as being much quieter. Hope this helps.
Happy Trails

Bob, when you say that your nv4500is quieter,
are you referring to the high frequency rattle from 1,000 to 1,700 rpm that encourages me to keep my foot out of it until higher rpm?

... fix for a Getrag problem? Get rid of it. Like a few others, I swapped out to a NV4500 and have not regretted it.

There is a person that has listed a NV 4500,new,never installed and under warrenty for what I would think is a very good price.
I am a little confused if I can quote the price,so I won't. Here is the number that is in Wheels& Deals. 615-699--2996 or 615633-7766

Right after I insatlled the NV4500 I was coming out of Whitefish MT and got stuck behind an older Chev PU pulling an older trailer. He was doing 55 in a 70mph zone. The first time I could pass him was going up a hill with a passing lane. I pulled out, dropped the NV4500 into 4th and put the pedal to the metal. When I passed him I was doing 65, had 27lbs of boost at 2400 rpm and all I could hear was the sweet sound of my Cummins. With the Getrag the noise would have kept me from doing that. By the way I was pulling my trailer - total weight truck & trailer was about 10,000 lbs.
